Default Friends 350Z convertable problem

I'm trying to help my friend figure out what is wrong with his wifes 350Z

the top works fine but dosen't seam to tuck back into place tight enough for the cover to close.

I have searched the board already and came up with alot of other posts but nothing with our problem.
I havn't beed able to find any diagrams of the control of the top either.

If any one can please direct us to the information we need to figure out the problem that would be great.

We dont know if the midle isn't tucking in like it should or the entire things not going all the way down.

So recapping..
It works OK it just wont tuck in so the cover can go all the way down.

Thanks for looking and thank God for forums.

I actually remember going to the library to photo copy stuff from the Chiltons book.
Man things have changed haven't they.

^^ +1 Sounds like the elastic bands.

They loose their elasticity and dont pull one of the bows down far enough to let the top fold up all the way. He needs to fix it or he will have more problems than that soon enough.

WOW GREAT TUTORIAL

I emailed a moderator and suggested he make that one a sticky.

I went all over yesterday looking for info on the bands and how they work but that was perfect.

Thanks Gunsmoke
And LBZ350 too.

We tried to help the elastic out today and the top closed like its supposed to.
So I'll have him get the straps tomorrow and put them in.

I'm going to tuck a piece of sheet metal behind bar in case i slip with the drill.
But i don’t see any problems.

Thanks for the help.

Default Tinner, looking for your update

Did you install the bands? Did it work? I read this post because I was having the same problem on my Z. I ordered and installed the bands and now my top works like it should. I wanted to try out the new bands before I did anything else and it worked like it should. I am going to lube all the pivot points now it is working properly. This forum rocks! Looking for your reply.

Mine had the same problem when I got it. Turns out someone had shoved paper towels down the side of it. Maybe something is stuck in hers?
