How long before the top mechanism breaks?
One of my favorite things I love about my roadster is how the top goes up and down - the whole thing is fascinating to me. However, it just seems to me that whole mechanism won't last as long as the car - it just feels like it will be the first thing to break the day after the warranty expires, and certainly be a pain 7-8 years from now.
Any ideas on how to maintain the top in tip-top (no pun intended) shape? Any lubrication suggestions?

I bought an extended warranty = 75,000 miles. I've had a 911 C4 Cab for 8 years, 112000 miles. Lots of top up and down activity. Last summer one nut worked itself off of a bolt and the bolt fell out, jamming the mechanism and blowing a fuse. I fixed it myself in the parking lot. The thing that can be a killer with the Z is if it develops electrical gremlins. There are a lot of relays, motors and switches involved with the top.

Hey Rich,
Well, I did it too. Went and got myself the 7 year 100,000 mile Gold Preferred warranty. Some will say I just blew $2K into the wind. I say - "peace of mind is priceless..."
