Hey guys

I am new to the board and have a question. I am considering purchasing a 350Z as my daily driver and was wondering if any one knows how they behave in the snow and ice. I live in Kansas City Missouri and we have snow and ice a few times a year. I have had quite a few sports cars, including a 300ZX a long time ago, and most have been rear wheel drive. Just wanting to know how much of an ice skate they become when they are on ice and snow. Thanks for any information.

The answer to your question really depends on the tires you're using. If you've got an appropriate set of snow tires on the car and don't drive like an idiot, you shouldn't have any problems with the wintry stuff (I've driven my Z through 2 New England winters on Blizzaks so far without incident). On the stock tires, fuhgeddaboutit....even if you have a light dusting of snow, you'll slide all over the place (I've no experience with this myself, but I've seen many horror stories throughout the forums here).

I live near St Louis and drive my Z as my daily driver. Drove it all through this past winter without snow tires (Nitto tires). We had a couple snow falls and its definitely not great in the snow but if you drive slow and don't act like an idiot i think you would be alright even without snow tires IMO. If there is more than i'd say 4-5 inches on the roads, i wouldnt be driving though. I noticed when going uphill in the snow i had to turn off the TCS because it bogged my car down and made me come to a complete stop on a nice hill! All-in-all, if you go slow and dont act stupid, i think you would be alright.

 

If you change out the tires, you will be perfectly fine. I drove my Z in Indy in snow with the stock RE040s and nearly died (and that was 0.5 mile drive in a light dusting)

I then drove my uncle's g35c in Buffalo in 3" of fresh snow on the roads, but he had 17" Blizzaks. Felt as good as any car I have driven in the snow this side of awd.

DONT drive this car in snow or ice without snow tires...you will be sorry if you do...maybe even dead.

 

Aren't the stock Potenza RE040's summers? I would buy winter tires if it snows quite a bit..

Up here in Vanacouver, it may snow for a few days.. then ice/slush for another few days... So i may not drive the 350Z in the snow..

 

You're absolutely right...the RE040's are a summer tire, and with that being the case, they turn into 17" hockey pucks when the weather gets cold.
