Default Cracked 06 Rim

Well, the unthinkable has happened. While driving I noticed a clicking coming from the passenger front wheel well. Pulled over, checked the tire, couldn't find anything. Kept driving, kept hearing the clicking. Pulled into a lighted parking lot, looked around the tire some more.

Looked down, saw a scratch on my rims. I freaked out thinking someone keyed my rims, then I reached around and felt the crack. Clean through on the spoke...

I can't blame the powdercoating, but I know Nissan will. I'm F'ed. Has anyone heard of this?

Anyone have one 06 Rim laying around ??
I'll post pics tomorrow.Edit:Pics on Post 13

so they were powdercoated? if so that could have easily contributed to the cracking IMO

I can't see how powdercoating could. If anything, it would make it stronger. The baking process wouldn't have comprimised the integrity of the rim.

thats exactly what could have compromised the integrity of the rim. I'm not saying it did, but it looks like the most likely culprit, since I have yet to see a post about cracked stock rims.

i know ive read a few times that powdercoating forged rims weakens them but not sure how that affects cast wheels.

How hot are the rims getting while tracking? Why aren't those rims cracking.

Yeah, but the powdercoat is most likely going to void their warranty.

DO NOT DRIVE ON THAT WHEEL

I had a 5 star crack like that on an older car and kept driving on it, the wheel finally broke in the middle of a sweeping turn. One of the lug nuts was sheared off, flew into the grass and set the median on fire.

Yeah, the wheel is in my trunk. I was really happy that I caught the noise and decided NOT to take the freeway.

I'll take a better pic of the tire when I go back home. There didn't seem to be any strange deformation of the tire or any heavy marks. I don't think I could have run over something. Also, the lip of the rim is still clean, so whatever happened, it wasn't caused by me hitting something big and sharp.

Yes members have cracked wheels. They are not indestructible.
