Chances are one of your coworkers or a neighbor or a friend has a jack you could borrow for the day to do this.

If you don't have the tools to do it right, then wait 'til you do... I sure wouldn't want a 3,000+ pound car hovering over me unless I was sure it wasn't gonna come down on top of me. Accidents happen - That's why they're called accidents.

Edit: I was changing my motor oil, tranny oil, and diff oil a couple weeks ago. When I adjusted one of the floor jacks, it moved slightly, but enough for the car to slip off the jack. Fortunately, I had the good sense to use jack stands under the frame on all four corners. The car fell less than 1/2 an inch before the jackstand caught that corner. No damage to the undercarriage, no crushing of my bones~ :-)

sorry i'm a noob here any info to where to get the brembo calipers only for cheap? or is there a website you guys know that sells a set for cheap online? the ones i've seen is way to heavy for my pocket... thanks!

 

Just keep checking for people selling them - eventually you will find a good deal. Just have patience and look everywhere u can.

 

Michla22, do you happen to know how much more(in mm) the brembo calipers sticks out than the non-brembo calipers? A good measurement would be from the face of the hub on the rotors. Front and rear, brembo and non brembo.

You'd be actually be doing me a huge favor I'd been interested in these wheels made to clear non-brembos with about 5-8mm of spoke clearance. If i wanted to maintain that 5-8mm with brembo calipers, how much of a spacer would i need?

I don't have the measurements from my old non-brembo setup however i will gladly take the measurements from my current setup - Give me a couple of days though - just now moving into a new house.

OP...Great write up. The one thing you didnt mention is to sand down any rust on the hub before installing new rotors. The object is to take off any rust caked on that will prevent the new rotor from sitting properly.

 

What are the torque specs for the caliper? And what are the torque specs for the wheel lugs?

 

All 2003 info:
Non Brembo (bolts that hold cylinder body to the torque member - caliper to the rack)
Front and rear are 17-22 ft-lbs

Brembo caliper bolts:
Front: 111.4-112.1 ft-lbs
Rear: 53-71 ft-lbs

Lug nuts 80 ft-lbs

I just finnished this same mod. I took the brembo calipers to work and bead blasted all the old paint off, then painted them a purple color with some caliper paint and rebuilt the calipers as well, FYI there is a shortage of rear caliper rebuild kits AND they cost more than the fronts, go figure.

After all the work I did I assumed that I'd be able to figure out the right from the left sides, WRONG, they will fit on either side both front and back. I mistakenly opted to install them with the bleeders facing down thinking that it would be easier and cleaner for bleeding them, funny thing about air bubbles, they dont want to sink in the pistons. After bleeding the calipers over and over I realized my error in judgement, swapped them bled them and that did the trick. I don't track my car and to be honest I don't feel any difference from my old brakes but they have way more bling.

 

Where did you get the rebuild kit??
