NASA Florida January TT Results
The NASA FL Region had its first event last weekend @ Homestead and I ran the Z in TTD. Turned out to
be an awesome event...perfect weather and 7 competitors in TTD (lets win some hoosiers!).
I tried a different setup that put my car very close to the min Wt/Hp ratio for the class:
Dyno Reclass TTD* @ 3195lbs/235hp
+ 7 for the (*)
+10 R6 225/45/17
- 4 225mm Tire
+ 2 Springs
+ 3 Shocks (DA Koni)
+ 1 Upgrade Diff
Total: +19 TTD
Adjusted Wt/Hp Calc:
3195lbs/235hp = 13.59 + .8 (for tire < 255mm) - .05 for weight = 14.34....pretty close to 14.25 min.
I was hoping to run in the mid 1:42s and beat the current TTD track record of 1:43.825, but I knew
the current record holder was going to defend and improve his record in his boosted Miata. I
was going to have to set a great time to ensure total Z domination!
Turns out the car was even better than I expected. To my surprise it ran a 1:41.970, 2secs faster
than the previous track record!!! To put it in perspective, my previous best, running TTC trim,
was 1:41.0xx and the current TTC track record is a 1:40.376 (the miata driver has that one too)....
not too shabby. The s2k that won TTC that day ran a 1:41.6xx. The car was weighed at impound
and passed: 3211lbs, nice margin just in case.
The time was a shock to me and everyone else in the class. I wanted to set a good time but 2 secs
faster than the previous record would mean a protest of some sort. So 2hrs later while I'm having
lunch...I get a call from our TT director.....someone had asked that the car be put on jackstands for
a thorough inspection.
Our TT director is a very nice guy and does an awesome job of ensuring everyone is legal so I
although I didn't like the car being put under scrutiny like that I knew I had to be ready for it.
So they start going through my TT Classification form making sure the car is legit...line by line.
There were some questions here and there....no the suspension is not adjustable, the shocks don't
have external reservoirs and are only DAs, no aero, its pretty much stock, upgraded LSD ok for
Enthusiast, etc.
So after biting my finger nails for 25mins, I get the green light!!! Nice, we all shake hands and its done.
What a relief! Fortunately the record held up all weekend and will at least until our March event.
Next up is an attempt to set the TTC track record in March. The Z is on fire!!!

The nice thing about the NASA Classification system is the various options you can play with. I believe the Z can be very competitive in TTD/TTC and probably TTB (a member on here, Fixxxercask, is gunning for TTB at Nationals). Also want to clarify that any car can be dyno re-classed (mine is stock)...no engine mods or swaps or anything is required....simply get a dyno done (be very careful to follow the exact procedure and fill out proper form) and send an email out to the National director.
Here are some actual reclass configurations for the Z based on Wt/Hp:
3440 lbs / 240whp / TTD / 245mm
3370 lbs / 235whp / TTD / 245mm
3195 lbs / 235whp / TTD* / 245mm
3260 lbs / 240whp / TTD* / 245mm
3360 lbs / 260whp / TTD** / 245mm
2940 lbs / 235whp / TTC / 255mm
3005 lbs / 240whp / TTC / 255mm
2890 lbs / 240whp / TTC / 255mm (must end up in TTB though)
3190 lbs / 306whp / TTB / 265mm
The nice thing is that the NASA Classification system applies in both TT to PT (w2w). I think of it as a ladder system w/ nice transitions....HPDE -> TT -> PT.
If you (or anyone else for that matter) have any questions about the dyno reclass stuff or the classification forms let me know, I and other NASA members on here would be glad to help.

Thanks for the help. I've been talking to fixxxercask about how to start out in NASA. Hopefully I can get to Putnam park in may to do the hpde and a ride a long with him! My main concern is tire choices. I have enkie rfp1s. 18x10.5 +15 square setup. I was leaning towards 285/35s
