Changes to the Marketplace Section
We have changed the marketplace section.
Members are able to post and reply to their own posts but will need to PM the owner of the tread for more info vs. replying to the thread.
This is to help eliminate the excess clutter with the members posts.

Yeah no more of that stupid "bump for good price" bullcrap.
This allows sellers to get direct contact from potential buyers via PM or if listed e-mail. This will help avoid confusion of "who said this" and "what did they say" of the previous setup since PM's are more personal and direct especially if you use quotes.
Similar to an eBay setup where buyers have to contact the seller privately instead of publicly.
This also makes it easier for the seller to just check their PM's or e-mails instead of constantly having to go back and find there thread and then replying.
This also prevents the types of replies that discourages potential customers. e.g. "Well I can get it @ ___ for $____.__".
"Dibs" are disallowed with this setup in place. If you want something, be the first to pay for it.
As mentioned above this solves the problem of all the clutter. Since only the thread owner is allowed to reply with updates or "SOLD" status.

Not trying to make you change it back to the way it was before, but if this is about saving bandwidth... Don't you think people requesting the same thing over and over in private message to the user would create more bandwidth then it would be for them just to see a question answered in the thread and decide to buy or not...
This would also clutter and fill up his message inbox much quicker... To me, this defeats the whole purpose of a "forum", but I guess you know what's best for your forum.

Read the announcement in the Marketplace forums. Saving bandwidth is not the reason.
In fact If bandwidth was increased then we would resolve it with better hardware/software, not by cutting down on member privileges.

you'd save a ton more bandwidth if there was a way to get rid of the EDIT time lockout for the thread owner... that way we could edit prices / status / availability in the main thread and not have to post updates every time something changed from available/pending/sold/etc...
what exactly is the purpose of having an EDIT time lockout, anyway? i don't see a practical use for it on this board...

I hate the new Market Place forum. Cant reply? That was the best part in my opinion. I liked reading replies from people that had something to say about said item being sold. Whether it was a potential scam, over priced, could find cheaper somewhere else, etc. Isnt that the entire purpose of a public forum? Sharing Knowlegde, finding the best deals on parts, giving your opinions, etc. Oh well, I havent visited the market place forum since the change and plan on never going again. Just my opinion I guess. Overall, I love this site. Good work guys. BEN

I too am now afraid of scammers. Sometimes I don't if the seller is a scammer or not. I'm not good at noticing scammers. When i see a good price for an item, I would jump on it. If forum member can reply to the FS thread and warn people for such incident can save my ars

Hmm? Perhaps we need to allow responses at least in the "Private Classified" section where most of the fraud happens. I can see everyone's concern in this & it is quite valid.
