Thanks, it's a work in progress to do this type of tuning. Unfortunately there is no way for me to generate real world usage on a seperate db so I have to go through the trial and error and work it out in real time.

Unfortunately I have a day job too!

hehe soon as Kyle bumps us up to 4G on the server I'm going to be caching a lot more, if it continues though we might have to move the search to a slave server, which means we'll have to add a server. This will take a bit to order/get/configure everything though

I've received that msg. randomly during just this past week.

Last couple of weeks I noticed if you tried to search for anything complex or multi-term, search failed altogether for me, so I could only search for one or two words at a time.

Seeems to be working much better now and faster.

Yah, I've done a TON of tuning here recently but the searches are going to take a bit more time. I know the site busy is annoying but if I don't stop that then we spawn a bunch of apache processes and it spirals performance down the drain. I should be able to remove it when we hit the 4G boost today sometime.

server is now up to 6G of memory, caching and key buffers increased and memory should help. Let's see how she flies now.

Don't know if it's b/c of the early Sat morning or the new RAM, but the site is flying for me
