korean
Korean here, born in Korea moved to Philly at age of 13 and spent about 5 years there and then moved to Cali about 7 years ago. leeboyNY we have met before @ Daum Infiniti cafe. Good to see you again. I don't drive 350Z but I do visit this forum quite alot...too much. very knowledgeable Auto enthusiasts here.
Has anyone here successfully imported a modified Z into Korea?
Sometime around May/June '07 I am looking to move back to Korea (if the job is still available, hopefully I don't jinx myself so knock on wood) and I want to take my 350Z with me.
I know import tax is going to cost an arm and a leg, but the main thing I am worried about it is passing the inspection. I was over in Korea from Jan. '03 - Jan. '06 and I had a friend that had his stock Z imported when he moved to Korea. However, my Z is not all stock....I have quite a few add on's and modifications to include a twin tubo kit and 3'' true dual exhaust.
So does anyone have any insight, experience, info...or know someone I can talk to about this?
I would really hate to go through all the steps: pay, put it in a 40ft. container, throw it on the boat, get it to Korea, and then it fail inspection.
Any info and help would be great.

From what I know, you need to remove any performance related modifications from your car in order to import. Especially when you have Forced Induction undr the hood
...that needs to be taken out. My buddy took his slightly modified Audi A4 Intake/Exhaust with him but I remember him saying that he had to removed them all to clear inspection. I think he paid around $15000 + shipping $1500, and other friend with C55 AMG paid over $20000 + shipping $1500. He removed speed limiter on his C55 AMG and hit 298km on his way to In-cheon Airport. Sounds fun...I wish I can bring my TT FX to Korea and race him.

OK.. about importing the modded vehicles to korea.... If he brings the car in as a moving item, he doesn't have to take the smog and noise inspections. He just needs to take the safety test. So, this means that he might get away with it..
creaminZ,
Did your friends drive the car in the states for a while before taking them to korea? I think in order to prove that the car is a part of moving items, car needs to be registered and licensed in the states for longer than 3 months.. <- I might be wrong.. The Korean gov might have increased this period from 3 months to 6months or a year...

I see that this might get complicated for me. If anyone has information (email, phone number, contact info., etc.) of the office that handles the importing of vehicles....please pass that info onto me. Thanks

wish I could import my baby to Korea...wish..Anyways, he had his C55 for about a year, I heard after 3 month of ownership you can import. So shouldn't be a problem for you phase1. For the modified Z...like leeboyNY said, you might be able to get away with custom but you might NOT be able. I'd just part it out and ship it. Sent you PM back phase1.
