Poll: Which 10" should i buy?
Hey i'm going change my current audio set up, and i wanted some feedback from you guys because i know a lot of you audio experts have heard a ton of different subs. I want something that hits hard, that will vibrate the a$$es of myself and my passenger but wont sound cheap at the same time.
I'm going to go for a 10" under the rear strut, have a friend that says he may be able to make me a custom fiberglass enclosure back there.
I saw someone just installed an Alpine type X sub with the carbon fiber cone and i thought that looks nice, esp the 500-1000 watt rms output.
Then i've heard Elemental Designs makes good subs, i think maybe its the K model?
I've heard a lot of good things about Image Dynamics as well, i think the model may be like an IDMAX10v.2, they may make a few other 10"s that may be better or wore but i'm not too familiar with them.
And of course JL Audio, but i had a 10w6ae and my best friend has a 12w6ae in his car, but for the cost they just don't seem all that awesome. I know the 10w7 is in a whole nother league probably, but being a college student, i dont want to blow all my money on a 10w7 & a 1000/1 amp.
I'm really leaning toward that alpine type x sub, but i want some input plz. All Opinions are appreciated!
Thanks,
Alex

Ok ive been reading about the subs a little on the internet and the Image Dynamics IDMAX 10 V.3 Sounds pretty awesome, rated at 1000watts RMS.
Anyone that has heard the IDMAX 10 v.3 in person do you think or know if it exceeds the sound of the Alpine Type X? Is it on a high enough level to be compared with the JL 10w7?
I really just dont want to blow a bunch of time and money into a sub that i regret buying.

Whichever sub you buy, make sure you match your sub box size, type (sealed or ported), and wiring recommendations from the subwoofer maker. I've heard expensive subs sound terrible when setup in the wrong box, and a correctly setup, moderately priced sub setup can sound awesome too.
Go with a JL Audio sub & amp and you won't go wrong. Just follow JL Audio's box and wiring requirements for the sub.
Have fun with it.

B10 is a good sub, but if you can get the IDMaxes cheaper .. they're very similar .. I've had the 12 XXX, 15 XXX, 10 v3 IDMax, 12 v2 IDMax (x4), and a ton of other stuff .. so yes, I've compared them [For those who don't know, the XXX is very very similar to the Brahma]
I voted IDMax. It's the only 'supersub' outta the poll, plus JL (currently winning) is way overpriced for what you get, IMO.

I think i may be placing my order right now. Going with an IDmax V.3 10"er (thats the 1000watts rms one) from some advice from some guys on here. I think ill only run it off a 500/1 amp though, dont really need 1000 watts rms, maybe some day down the road.

I have a JL 10w6v2 and I absolutly love it. I have just the one with an e1400D powering it and it sounded in my opinion AWESOME.
TtOrMaMnY has heard mine.
Of the others I've only heard the elemental designs and it was a 12" that I heard. He had it powered with the same amp I have and my sub hit harder, was cleaner, and was also tighter (but the last could be the box).
That's my opinion.

Get the IDMax or a used Brahma or XXX sub for the same $$$ .... JL is nice, but very expensive for what you get.
Let me know when you need some help with getting it all put together

Hey Jim isent you a PM a while ago and you never answered back. From what you said it sounded like you know how to do fiberglassing. I'm going to build a box out of MDF wood, but its going to look U-G-L-Y in the back. I was thinking maybe you could help me fiberglass around the box under the strust to make it look pretty again.

If you have the right tools you can bend MDF
Make fine cuts side by side, bend/hold in place, use wood glue + wood powder to make wood paste, and fill the slots .. it will dry just as strong as the MDF if you fill it completely.
Wood glue is actually stronger than screws
