I just may try that..thanks! When I was experimenting with locations it just seemed that placing the tweeter anywhere in the vacinity of the mid-range sounded complete and localized, like there was a complete person or instrument playing from one general vacinity, and when I moved it up to stock it sounded seperated and unnatural. I think this is the off-axis problem you mentioned.
