Default Contrast problem with Alpine CDA-9835

I just had my alpine cda-9835 installed today and at night with the head lights on the display is way too dark. I tried to adjust the dimmer to manual mode but that just keeps it dark with the light on and off. I also adjusted the contrast of the gauges on the left side of the dash but that didn't control the head unit just the gauges. Has anyone with this head unit had the same problem, if so how did you fix it. Do you think it is a defective unit, incorrect install, or just something i have to adjust in the head unit. Thanks for your help
Mike

I just installed this head unit on my car, and after going though the manual and the internet, I have found out that you cant change the brightness of the screen. Only if it changes brightness from turning the lights on.

Also I have read that you can not change the clock from 24-hour time.
Has anyone found a way to change it to 12 hour time?

No way...I have the IVA-D300 and you can change all of the things that you said you can't on the CDA

Damn, the only options I can find on the 9835 is to change the dimmer control to auto or manual modes, but once in manual, I cant find any ways to change it.

How do you change the clock on your radio?

In the book that came with the 9835, which also had the 9833 instructions in it, it says "adjusting the display contrast" (9833 only), so I think were out of luck.

I'm not entirely sure about the 9835, but I think with the "bio" display units, you don't have much play in terms of contrast. Atleast this was the case with the older 78 series I had

what if i disconnected or cut the wire in the back that controlled the dimmer when the lights go on so it stays at the brightness when the lights are off at all times?

i have this unit and there's no way adjusting the brightness. very nice hu but not so user friendly. why didn't it just have a treble and bass control instead of eq? I'm no audiophile so figuring out how to adjust the bass and treble is difficult.

go to alpine's website and look into the ipersonalize page. i changed loudness and width at various frequencies and it is very nice...lots of fine tuning capabilities.

i especially like their X-over function and slope feature.

I had this problem and simply cut the wire that controlled the display contrast / brightness. Now, even with my headlights turned on, the display stays bright.

I thnk this happens to all players. I have the Alpine CDA9835 and mine dims once headlights are turned on.

Also, when the headlights are turned on and you scroll through your playlist or songs you can only read the song that's in the middle while the other songs below or above it can't be read clearly.
Anyone w/that same problem?
