Default Need help with subwoofer setup!

I have a JL 13w7 in 2 cubes sealed running off of a JL 1000/1. I am not impressed with the low end output. I do not care about getting a lot of punchy midbass out of my sub. My midbass speakers will take care of that. Just so you know, the head unit is an Alpine 7949. Active crossover and EQ is the Audiocontrol DQX. Mids/Highs are MB Quart Q series 6" compoents up front (no rear mids/highs). I am not using the passive crossovers on the Q's. I have a Rockford Fosgate Power 650 Mosfet bridged to the two 6" mids/midbass. I have a Rockford Fosgate Power 300 Mosfet bridged to the two Q series tweeters. I have already tried crossing the sub over at a lower frequency and boosting the 40Hz range. That did not work, it just made the system unbalanced. I am an oldschool audiophile and I remember the days of the Punch Pro Series subs, which had crazy low end with the right power and correct ported box.

I don't feel like wasting any more money or time, so I want to make sure I do this right! I am not worried about preserving any spare tire or other space in the back. I figure there are about 3 cubes net to play with behind the strut.

These are thoughts I have considered so far:
1. Keep the 13w7 and port it, tuned low. Keep the 1000/1.
2. Replace the 13w7 with a Adire Brahma 15, ported and tuned low. Keep the 1000/1.
3. Get rid of the 1000/1 and 13w7 and use a Rockford Fosgate Power 1000 Mosfet bridged to push two ported Adire Brahma 10's or 12's (if they'll fit).

Thanks for any help on this. If anyone has any other ideas that I have not mentioned, please let me know.

I say port the enclosure. A sealed one won't hit like a ported one. My brother was running a 13w6v2 powered by an Xtant 600.1, it was crazy. A lot louder than my 3 10w6v2s.

Keep th e13w7 and build a ported enclosure. You will not believe it is the same sub. W7 will sound like you just doubled your cone space. And yes Keep the 1000/1.

as far as the brahma's... they are an EXTREMELY stiff sub.... with a sensitivity of about 82db.... put 2 and 2 together... you need ALOT of juice to push even 1 of em... can you say DRAIN YOUR BATTERY????.... if you take this route i'd be prepared for a charging system upgrade... make a ported box... it will be more efficient... and tune it to about 30hz
