it is pain in the butt to do a custom box to fit in that area so that you have enough air ratio. If not done right, it sound so shitty. OR you can just mount the new sub as open air..the cheapest method.

a local shop to me has been doing free air and putting the amp and the sub in that space. Sounds pretty good for a free air system.

I did a lot of research on this. I came to the conclusion that its better to put it under the strut bar for SQ. And you really want to have that thing fireing into your back?

this has been asked multiple times. run a search and you will find a few pics of different setups. Im running a JL10w6v2 mounted as the bose sub would have been.

I will take pics for you. You can see it when you pull my seat back facing me. There was a custom fiberglass bax made for accoustic reasons.

I bought a used '04 Enthusiast that someone had put a planet audio sub and amp where a stock Bose would go. I can't tell the difference from the fatory as far as looks. Pretty much free air space setup with batting located toward the back. Sub amp has a few eq choices and sounds pretty good for the somewhat so so name brand and basic setup. At loud volumes its like having your own seat massager built in! Can't say the brand would be my choice. Then again, I'm the type that likes to hear accurate bass response as if from an actual bass guitar or kick drum, not just a vibration.

cheers and good luck.

My friend is interested in mounting a 10 in the same spot because he uses his car as a daily driver and the trunk space is important.

I've got a Infinity Kappa Perfect 10 behind the seat and it sounds great. When you are building your box, Id recommend doing a few trial runs with cardboard. It took me half a day to get the measurements right.
