Default After market Nav

What after market Nav do you guys use? Which one do you feel is the best?
I am shopping for one right now. I don't have factory Nav. Do you know if a double din head unit will fit inside the holder where factory Nav will be?

Eclipse AVN5435. It looks almost stock and comes with a great warranty. Most people here have Avic N1 or N2 or Kenwood DDX. I may get it installed in the navi cubby so I don't have to look down. I'm pretty happy with it right now and haven't gotten lost yet.

Eclipse makes a great product. I wanted the screen in the factory location & at the time was keeping my factory Bose HU so I went with the Pineer NavSys620T. I love the touch screen & voice recognition features. Although there are other screens that fit better (look more stock) I'm extremely happy with it.

I've since replaced the HU and also added a DVD player that is incorperated into my Nav screen.

I just got my Eclipse AVN5435 installed yesterday in the same position as the stock radio and it is awesome!!! Its not too bad looking down, and i think it was well worth it. It looks clean and OEM like it was suppose to be there.

Damn I hope your install was clean. Mine isn't perfectly flushed as I hoped. But still I'm very happy with it despite my debt.

Avic D1 doesn't play back DVD movies BTW. Plus you can't drive and mess with the Nav at the same time AFAIK. My AVN5435 has been bypassed. Also the warranty on the Eclipse is 3 years and 1 year theft guaranteed if installed by a professional. The choice is simple.

My selection of a navigation unit is burning me up.

I saw a beautiful Kenwood double DIN install this weekend with a second 7" screen in the stock location. Having the unit that low helps with keeping it out of sight of other cars (thieves) and helps with the glare ... but on the otherhand ... I'm really thinking about a Pioneer AVIC N1 in the top DIN location and a DSP in the bottom ... feeding an old four channel Kenwood and a two channel Zapco I have gathing dust ... and another subwoofer ...

There is rumored to be a hack for the AVIC-N2 to allow you to do DVD's and more importantly for me, in route navigation changes but my seaches have lead me to nothing so far.

Nothing has grabbed me yet so I'm just stewing in my own juices. But when it does ... it will be nice.

Arg, now I wish I didn't buy the stock nav. the Avic looks awesome.

I wonder if I take out the stock nav if there is any thing I can do with it...

It seems kind of a waste to just get rid of it.

I love the look & functions of the AVIC units. What steered me away from them is the motorized screen. Just something to go wrong imo. Plus I really wanted to use the stock location. The advantage to my setup is that I may play/watch a DVD and still have my NAV going in the background. It will still mute my sound source for voice commands & if I need to see the directions it's a simple press of a button to switch from DVD to Nav & back. Plus the other think I wanted to accomplish was filling both DIN's in the factory Bose location.

Yea, I realized that after I posted. I was thinking N2. I didn't go with the D1 unit because I was keeping my factory Bose HU (originally anyway) & didn't need all the other features.

Thanks for correcting.

How is the Nav function for Eclipse AVN5435? Is it pretty accurate? Does it have different view angles like top view, 3D view, driver view.....ect?

nav disc is the same one from the old avn unit. so it is made in december 2003. they are planning to release new nav disc on this june so it will be alot more accurate. (my town has 2 huge mall opened about 1-2 years ago and those info are not in the nav disc.)

and its navigation is the same nav system lexus had in 2003 season (i don't know they still use this software or not). so it must be proven its quality.

althought it doesn't have 3d veiw but you can split the screen so 1 side you can see overview and the other side, you can make it very detail close up view.

hope this helps.

Yeah I also would ike to know if avic-d1 allows you to update destination or change route while in motion. If not, which aftermarket unit does?

I was thinking about getting a nav system also but my freind got it in his explorer and he said he has to pay $39.99 a month for it. spending $1500 plus that monthly fee is ridicilous. I can read a map for $1.99 or print directions of the internet for free.

you can change to an alternate route for the same destination while driving, but you are locked out of entering a new address or point of interest. I don't believe any of the newer nav systems allow you to do that for safety reasons.
