Default Speaker Missing, which speaker is this?

I am purchasing a Z and it is missing a speaker from the Bose sound system. It appears to be the Subwoofer. Am I correct? Here is a picture: http://inc28.web.aplus.net/frg-n/470...k/DSC00025.JPG

What are your suggestions as far as replacing this? I'm not looking to upgrade, just replace. Would it be better to go after market or OEM? Also, where would I purchase this?

Thanks in advance!

it would be better to go aftermarket than trying to replace the oem sub only. plus cheaper probably.. but people on here sell the oem sound system all the time, look around

Looks like someone jimmy rigged your panel to fit a bigger sub than the factory location could handle, or maybe the wasn't a sub there at all and they wanted to install one. Either way, it looks terrible. Go to the dealer and get a new panel, the panel with the Bose logo and grill. If that metal panel is salvagable, you can get a new bose sub also. What year is the Z? I know that the 2003 Bose system comes with some weird ohmage thresholds for it's speakers. If you try an aftermarket sub, you'll throw the impedence off. This will alter the performance of the Bose stock amp.

This is in a 2003 with the Bose system. I thought it was just the sub missing? Theres an entire panel missing? How expensive is this to fix?

When I looked closer at the pic.... I noticed that the metal panel behind the plastic panel is not good. It looks like the previous owner hacked it up to fit a larger sub woofer. You'll need the Bose sub, metal panel to mount it too, then the plastic cover to cover everything up. The plastic panel has a grill with holes incorporated into it. It also has a small Bose logo on it. Call the dealer for pricing.

I can't even begin to wonder what the person was trying to do there...I hope they didn't mount a sub to the panel and say, "Ok, I'm done!".

There should also be a Bose amplifier mounted just to the center line of where that hole is too. It's the tiny thing just to the right of the real amplifier in the picture below. The Bose amplifier is mounted in a black plastic cover that makes it look bigger but this is the actually amplifier inside.

Someone should show a pic of a PPI 4 channell amp. That would be the ultimate comparison, 23" long!! That's like Shaq vs. Earl Boykins (anyone know what I mean?)

I will do a Comparison pic of my kicker 850.2 and the bose amp. The kicker amp is about 24" long.

Here you go Kicker 850.2 Vs Bose. Sorry for the poor picture quality. This was taken in my trunk at night.

I would suggest what Vo said. Get rid of the panel and metal panel. Put a better aftermarket sub.

The Stock Sub looks like a frisbee.

Someone cut a hole in that panel. That's why it "might" look larger.

Wow ... so most of the speaker is covered then ... my door panels are like 7.5" grills and my rears are like 5.25" or so ...

The front speaker sits partially below the grille too. It's pretty stupid.

I've seen pictures of that ... but the plug/grill that pops out in those photos is partially 'grill' and partially solid ... in my case, the whole 'plug' has holes in it ... I'll try to pull it out tonight to see if the speaker is offset in the 2005ZR.

here you go, this is what it should look like,
http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...de=28178-Z33SW
Youll need these parts too,
http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...Category_Code=
http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...de=28138-Z3303
This is what you are missing
Most likely you are missing the Bose amp, or amps. Depending on what the Prevouce owner did to the audio system.

Thanks!

If that amp is missing do I just need a amp for the subs? Or did that power everything else too? I know this is a stupid question but I dont know anything bout the Z, Bose, or factory sound systems for that matter..the rest of the speakers appear to function perfectly fine..

Can I just hookeup an aftermarket amp and sub to those wires in there without any kind of modification or removable of seats etc... dont feel like doing all that crap..
