Neither. Well I know XM sounds like low quality MP3, like 96kbs. Go with an MP3 player and get higher quality music. Just my opinion.

What are you talking about? Xm is better than regular radio and MP3s. I listen to XM in rental cars every week and I'm impressed. The quality is excellent for non-fm modulators (ie XM head units).

I love the variety of music. My musical tastes are all over the board, usually correlated with my mood. Sometimes I'll want to listen to hard trance if I want to get pumped up (XM Channel 82, System). Sometimes a little jazz to unwind (XM Channel 73?, Frank's place). Other times its weird experimental stuff. One times I almost drove off the freeway because I was listening to one of the comedy channels and laughing at a Seinfeld bit.

What I like most about it is that for every genre of music, there are five or six channels devoted to it. So for electronic music there are five channels. Top 40 is the same, spanish music same. Five or six channels of news like the BBC, CNN, CNN headline, Fox, etc.

Each channel for each genre's a little different too. Also I like that they have KISS FM. So wherever I am in the country, I can listen to Rick Deez in the morning and hear the traffic on the LA freeways.

I want to get XM ASAP but I don't want one of those kludgy modulator jobs.

The commercials are like 10% of whats on regular radio for XM. They are infrequent and aren't nearly as long as normal commercials. I don't even notice them relative to regular radio.

Also keep in mind that if you get XM, you still get AM and FM. You just hit the little band button to pick XM, AM, or FM.

I have had XM for a quite a while now, and absolutely love it. I wish I could bring it in the house. The channels are great. For long trips, the comedy channel is amazing. For the guy that said the sound quality was bad and compared it to 96 kbs...do you know what XM is? Its pure digital quality from satellites. It sounds better than my CDs.
I highly recommend XM.

I would suggest looking at the financials of each company. Sirius is the Betamax of satellite radio. Low subscrber growth, tons of debt and not enough cash in the bank. XM is WAAAAYYYY closer to being profitable and hence much more likely to be around in 3 years.

Been investing in stocks lately, sorry to put such a financial spin on my choice.

XM has the coolest looking plug and play hardware, as well as choices with other head gear.

Many people believe that the music selection on XM is better and that Sirius has some repetition.

I just installed the XMCommander (FM-modulated) in my Performance and I love it. The variety is great, the sound quality is good, considering the stock non-Bose radio. I listen to Ethyl, Squizz, Unsigned and the Comedy channels - these are funny as hell and are uncensored.

I agree that you should consider the financial viability of these two companies and XM is by far the most stable and has the greatest and fastest subscriber growth.

I just got my wife the in-home Delphi and she loves it. It's not a huge investment.

Good luck in your decision.

mdepena:

I'm considering an XMCommander in my Performance too. Did you have to do anything special with the install?

Did you need an antenna adapter?

mgk65,

The XMCommander comes with an FM modulator that you connect between the radio and the stock antenna cable.

Your biggest pain will be splicing into the existing radio power wire to take advantage of the way the radio turns off and on when you turn the car on. Be sure to use solder to ensure you have a solid contact.

I a-b'd the two on identical setups and preferred the sound quality of Sirius. XM sounded like a cassette tape. Sirius is also truly commercial free, XM is not. The main thing was though, when you punch up JAZZ on Sirius, you get JAZZ, not dentist's office music. lol

In three years? I dunno. I probably won't have this car in three yeas so I don't really care.

But for my tastes Sirius was the better choice. I suggest you listen to both as much as you can before you purchase.

I was fortunate enough for my installer to have two identical systems side by side in the shop (same head unit, speakers, sub) to compare the two directly. Maybe you'll have a similar chance.

One other thing..

In my area (South Texas) XM supposedly needs a shot to the horizon so it doesn't work well in valley's etc. Sirius goes straight up, I've never lost service. Hell it even works in my garage.

I have Sirius (with a Sirius-ready Kenwood headunit) in my car, and have listened to XM in my brother's Yukon XL...

I'm glad I "got sirius"

I have never heard a commercial on Sirius before in my life...

and they have a much larger hip-hop/r&b/oldschool rap selection on sirius. That may not be for YOU, but it was a plus for me.

Yeah that's interesting and all, but it still doesn't change what I like more in my car.

I'm not hiding from anything lol!

People have been telling me for the year I've had Sirius that it was going to "go away". It hasn't happened yet, when it does I'll worry about it then.

What else am I supposed to do? Rip it out, buy XM beause some market pundits are convinced Sirius has more of a future? Yeah that makes sense.

And XM doesn't have this

I'm just playin with ya man. I know you have your reasons and all for stabbing at Sirius, that's cool. All I know is I compared the two side by side and preferred what I got. To each his own ya know?
