Question Radar Detector??

I've gotten a few speeding tickets this past year, and I'm thinking it might be time to invest in a radar detector. The only problem is, I know nothing about radar dectectors.... What should I look for when getting one? Do they really help that much? Has anyone actually gotten a ticket while using one??

By far the best radar detector I've ever used. I've also heard good things about the Passport 8500 but I don't have any person experience.

Do radar detectors protect against unmarked police cars on highways, or are you pretty much screwed when you come across one?

If anybody wants hook ups, I can get a nice Passport whatever whatever rader detector for 50%-70% off. I forgot what hook up I can get, but I guarantee it's under $200 versus the $300 they retail at =). Yes, it is the up to date Passport radar detector, I'm just too lazy to get into technical names 'n model numbers.

If it's the 8500 X50 let us know.

I've got the V1 which now sits in the Z but I need somethign else for the SUV now.

Radar detectors detect radar ... not police badges. If there's an unmarked car or a trained monkey with a radar gun on the side of the road the detector will detect the use of the gun.

get the v1, x50 or bel rx65... they are all worth the money. Anything else you may as well save that money for defensive driving.

If you read the reviews the 8500 and V1 are both neck and neck. either one will work just fine.

I own 2 8500s and both are great. only plus side to the V1 is it tells you where the signal is coming from. however the V1 looks IMO like as-s The 8500 has a much nicer look to it. less boxy.

Neat feature is that once the detector finds a signal, it will indicate the direction from which it is coming from. (Front, rear, lert, right etc.) I wish my detector had this feature as its always going off and I can never tell where its coming from.

I vote for the passport 8500x50 blue or red. i've had both. knock on wood haven't recieved a ticket yet. It saved me 4 times alone going from charlotte to wilmington. it also got better reviews on speedzones.com and radartest.com. Pick it up at your local Best Buy.

If you want to total package... best radar there is period... K-40 2000 sonar radar, It is pretty expensive but it well worth it. It has the best radar distance, scrambler, and pop sensor! Top of the line, IF you can find a dealer... Tell them 1100 installed, that is the best price out.

I Have both the Valentine 1 and in my 350Z I use an Escort 8500X50 attached to the Escort ZX3 laser defense which has three antennas two behind the front grill and one over the rear license plate that has been my only defense from getting hit by a laser gun since they will nail you when the trigger a laser gun. I think that the Valentine with the arrows works well although I prefer the Escort 8500X50.

You are the reason that K40 is still in business. They are overpriced, barely detect radar better than a Cobra or Whistler and they don't jam any laser guns made today.

Valentine One is the best radar/laser detector on the market today.

http://www.kc8unj.com/radar/guysofli...5/spectre.html

http://motortrend.com/features/consu...r_buyersguide/

"This year, the measurement of the radar and laser detection abilities of each of the over $200 units gives the Valentine One ($400) a small edge over the competing BEL Vector 995 ($260) and Escort Passport 8500 X50 ($300 with red display or $340 with a blue display) units."

V1 is the best in laser detection:

http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...213&highlight=

V1 has the best rear radar detection because it is the only detector with 2 antennas to locate radar:

http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...214&highlight=

V1 is the least detectable detector by RDD's or Radar Detector Detectors in states where radar detectors are illegal. The Spectre III is the most used RDD in the world and it can only pick up the Valentine One if it is 166 feet or closer which is better than the X50 which can be detected 954 feet away.

http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...383&highlight=

The Valentine One which accounts for only .6% of radar detector sales wins every poll when it comes to being the favorite detector. The X50 doesn't even get an approval rating as high as George Bush's worst rating.

Radar Roy from Radarbusters.com said this about the Valentine One, "Just spoke with Carl Fors from SML, his website will be going online tonight with the 2005 results. He has declared the V895, 8500 and the Valentine One as the top performers. Motortrend, who was also at the test, will be declaring the Valentine One as the top detector based upon its detection of laser.

http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...=4696&start=90

Radar Roy said, "There were results that they (Guys of Lidar) got during the test that I was not exactly pleased with, such as the discovery of the Blinder not having Stealth Mode installed and the Valentine beating out the Escort and Bel in the range tests. Even though I don’t sell the Valentine, it does have slightly better range than both the RX65 and the 8500 and I also show this same fact on my site. Would love it to be the other way around."

Valentine will also upgrade your unit with new technology and components. While there is a charge it's far less than replaceing an obsolete radar detector.

"The testing also showed that the Bel RX65 and the Escort 8500 X50 performed as well, and in some cases better then the more expensive Valentine 1 radar detector."

Do some research before buying a detector. Many site will say the Valentine 1 is the "best Detector on the Market", others will say Bel or Escort. Just do some digging try these sites.

or google it and see for yourself.

I personally like the Bel Pro RX75 Plus. I had it installed in a while ago and it has worked great for me.

If you want the BEST pay $429 for the ValentineOne. If you want CLOSE to the BEST the Bell and Escort will suffice.
