Talking Rear-View Mirror Radar Detector Mount

Just mounted my radar detector to my rear-view mirror. Ordered a mount from Zip Products for a Corvette and was able to simply adapt it to the Z. Allows Radar Detector to suspend just below the center of the rear view mirror so as to get both height and rear coverage via the back window. Can be easy removed.

Please add some pics. Also, what kind of detector are you using. Can this fit a Bel 985?

I also have a Beltronics 980. The windowshield mount need a 1/4" hole drilled in the center of where the suction cups attach. Of course suction cups are not needed anymore. You will needed to purchase a 5/8 " (black) wire clip with holes in each end to attach around the vertical cylinder that connects the mirror to the windowshield. You will also need Zip Products part # X-1286. Discard the plastic thing they send with it. Attach the clip to the mirror cylinder, part X-1286 to the clip and the Bel 980 mount to the part. It's that simple. Of course you need to hotwire the detector at the mirror site.

How do you power the radar detector? Is it hardwired to the mirror or the overhead lights? Please post instructions.

Can you post pics of the disassembled mounting so I can source these parts in the UK?

Default radar- mirror mount

Does anyone have any additional information on the 5/8" black wire clip Pinkie referred to in the post about mounting the radar dectector to the rear-view mirrior? Where di I get one?

I ordered a mount for a V1 from ZipProducts, but I need to attach the mount to the mirror. Any ideas on where to get the "clip", or if anyone has attached the mount to the mirror another way, I would appreciate tips.

Thanks....

Default black wire clip

Morris, Purchased the black wire clip at Home Depot in the electrical dept. I think it is an installed conduct clip or fastener.

FYI

That Zip mount can screw directly into the plastic piece that attaches to the windshield. So you don't really need that bracket that goes around the round part of rear-view mirror. Unless you need to mount that way because of mounting depth preference or something like that.

this rox, it'll get the suction cups off my windshield. for what it's worth, don't get anything made by rocky mountain radar and radartest.com is an excellent source for radar/lidar info.

speaking of radar detectors, you guys seems to have BELs. I am in the texas area, would a bel vector 985 be the best one for me. I will be doing a lot of highway driving in addition to city and need a good one that will get them from far away. If vector 985 is just as good or better than passport, i can get one for 50-60 dollars less than a passport 8500 at the place i am looking. please let me know you guys opinions. LASERs have also been popping up around here lately and i really don't want to get popped by one of those.--any solutions?
