Default Sirius Antenna in Instrument Panel???

Anyone have issues with reception when installing the Sirius antenna inside the upper instrument panel on the driver's side (where the GPS antenna is located)? I tried it with the plug and play sirius and had no issues, but I'm changing to the tuner with a new headunit due to static. According to Bestbuy, the antenna WILL NOT work inside the dash. Let me know how your signal is and if / when you have problems...!

In my experience it depends on the antenna. I have the Eclipse hideaway Sirius tuner in the Z with the antenna on top of the dash just in front of the gauges. It works perfectly EXCEPT sometimes when the windshield wipers are on a certain intermittent speed (most speeds are fine), when I go under certain overpasses, and when tree canopy gets too thick. I have the S50 portable Sirius tuner in the Pathfinder and buried the antenna just under the dash on top of the vent tube. It works perfectly. No problems with windshield wiper interference, tree canopy or overpasses. I suspect I will have occasional outages when held up for long periods of time under an especially long overpass (or tunnel), but mostly it is great.

The antennas are completely different in appearance. The eclipse one http://www.eclipse-web.com/sir/index.html has a smaller footprint, but is probably twice as thick as the S50 one (can't find a picture. Its about a 2" diameter circular antenna maybe 1/2" thick).
