Default 35% Tint and V1 Radar... and more...

I've got my V1 hardwired to the immediate right of the rear-view mirror... just low enough to avoid those little dots that Nissan left in center top of the windshield.

I've heard things that say that tinting affects radars. Now I'm obviously not tinting the windshield but...

a) It's a V1 so it has rear-view sensors, which need to "see" out the rear view mirror... how will standard (non-Titanium) 35% tint affect this, do you think ?

b) I'm thinking of putting that "sunlight visor" tint up on the windshield... maybe some vinyl lettering as well... and the V1 will be right under it, maybe slightly interfering with it... do you think this will affect performance ?

Thanks,

-slay

I don't think anyone knows for sure. I would think that it wouldn't effect radar but probably would effect laser detection.

Yes the tint will interfer with laser detection, see this page on Valentine's site:

http://www.valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt2.asp

Also the material that the "dots" around the mirror are made of is referred to as "frit". It is put around the edge of the glass for the adhesive to stick to better than the glass. The dots are the same material and are there as a sunshade where the visors don't cover. The frit is silk screened onto the glass before it is heat cured and melted onto/into the suface of the glass, it is made of ground glass that melts and bonds with the windshield and also contains ceramic powder, and the bad part, either ground lead, iron or zinc. Any one of those metals is blocking the radar signal and the dots in general will block laser. If the pattern is blocking 50% of the light coming in in that area it is also block 50% of your radar and laser signals. Also remember that the windshield is slanted so from the radar detecters point of view it is blocking even more of the signal than it looks like from the drivers seat.
