Default Amplifier fuses

Hi all:

How are you? I am finalizing my plans for install into a roadster. I plan on putting a basslink in the stock bass location, and a 4 ch amplifier for the front and rear. I believe I have settled on an infinity 7541a, looks like it is highly recommended and good value for the $$.

My question is regarding placement of the amp - I was initially going to put it under the seat but it is going to be a very very tight fit (> 2.5 in high), and frankly if i dont have to have access to it, id rather not see it. Being a roadster, I have very little room, so I am very interested in placing it hanging behind the glovebox (a couple previous installs did the same). After I get all the gains, etc. tuned in, what are the chances of having to gain access to the amp again? Specifically the fuses on the amp?

It would be a big pain to remove paneling in the roadster to gain access again.. ie rollbars, etc... so is this a good idea or not?

Thank you very much for your help!!

Jeff

P.S. I would install one or two computer fans to keep the amp cool in the compartment, so temperature shouldnt be a problem. Thanks again!

The chance of you ever needing to change the fuses in the amp are slim to none, provided you fuse your power lead wire from the battery.

My advice would be to set up the system, tweak, tune, gain, etc how you like it with the amp on the passenger floor/seat/whatever ... and then disconnect it and hide it in the compartment.

Jim

for temperature .. you'll be fine with that amp.

Install your main distribution fuse box as close & as accessible to the amp as possible. Keep the fuse in the block as little as possible. Chances are, if anything blows it is going to be the main distribution fuse and not the amp's internal fuse

sorry to jack your thread, but im using the jl 2 gauge to 4 gauge wiring kit and it only came with one main fuse for the 2 gauge wire from what i've been reading once you change wire sizes you'll need a new fuse to protect the new lines can someone verify this as i am running the wires tomorrow or does the amps have internal fuses for this already?

Everything Ive read says you should definately put fuses on the other side of the distribution block, or get a fused distribution block. I will be doing this - make the distribution block easily accessible (as well as by the battery) and hide the amps wayy back in the car. This way, according to everyone's advise above, I will be easily able to change fuses in case something were to happen. But I will fuse before at the batter and again after the dist block.

Yes. Added a smaller fuse on the 4ga power cable. The main fuse for the 2ga feeder cable is designed for the 2ga cable only. Get a smalled amperage rated fuse for the 4ga cable. Remember, it never hurts to have too many fuses but it may hurt you one day if you don't have the right fuse in the right place.
