Sub Box Size Question ...
Alright I am on vacation so I cannot see if this box fits in the hatch of a Z. I just recently recieved a 12" Pioneer TS-W3004SPL Competition sub along with a Competition sub box made specially for this sub. The box is massive and I'm almost positive it will not fit in the hatch of a Z, but I thought I would ask for some help anyway.
I just measured the box and the dimensions are as followed...
*Height - 17 inches
*Width - 15 inches
*Length - 23 inches
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated ... TIA.

Height is probably going to be the limiting factor, even with the Spare tire and false floor removed. Does the driver really require 17". My advice would be to get another box for it at minimum height specs.
If space is a concern... it might be better to use one of these pioneer subs:
TS-SW3041D
Requires 0.5 ~ 1.0 Cubic feet
Or the 10 inch flavor:
TS-SW2541D
Requires 0.35 ~ 0.7 Cubic feet
With a 3" mounting depth!!
We have these at our shop but still havent had a chance to toss into a box yet.

Well I definitely want to keep the sub as it is a very good one ... I just thought it would be cool to have the box go along with it because I'm sure it would sound better in a box Pioneer made for it rather than putting it under the strut bar in one of those boxes off Ebay. Thanks for the help guys ...

You will need to make a custom box to the same internal volume and port area and length as the Pioneer box. It will sound identical. Just be sure to leave 1-1.5" behind the magnet of the woofer inside the box.
Your doing this backwards. To get the best sound, choose your enclosure first (space is at a premium in this car, choose the location for your sub based on what other things you may or may not be able to fit in your car....your options are:
Under Strut Bar from whoever (Zenclosures are popular)
Custom Box in the original sub location
Custom Box before the strutbar (similar to JL Audio Stealth Box)
Custom Box in Rear hatch removing the spare tire.
Rear Corners (wickedcas.com has a nice rear corner fiberglass solution)
Once you pick out the best enclosure for yourself THEN you go buy a sub that will fit and sound good in that enclosure.
BUT.. if you already are dead set on your sub or already have it in hand.. you are now limited to what enclosure you can use based on the cubic air space that enclosure provides. Out of all the types of boxes I listed, you need to find out the airspace of each type and match that with the requirements of your sub.

Thanks a lot ... the reason I already have the sub is because my sister's boyfriend works for Pioneer and won it in a raffle for free, and decided to give it to me. I figure I should just keep it because it is a great sub. I also recieved the box made for it but that's out the window because it is massive. Now I just need to find out the best location for this subwoofer. Thanks a lot for your help Ichigo.
