2 days with my new Track model and I love the car. However, there stereo is completely lame. Either they spent about $10 on the whole system (my bet), or they designed it to suck so you'd upgrade to Bose.

Take out all the mid, distort the highs, make the lows blurt, put that all behind a pillow, and at the end of a long tin can. That's about what the stock stereo sounds like Maybe I'm just picky because I'm used to audiophile quality components at home.

Anyways, I don't have a large stereo budget, so I'm going to be upgrading piece at a time. I want to tackle the weakest link first, but it's hard to say if that's the HU or speakers.

I was hoping somebody here has replaced this stuff and knew the answer? What will give me the better sound fastest? Better speakers, or new HU?

The order that I'm thinking of doing items is:
*Speakers (thinking either Infinity or JL)
*HU (probably Pioneer)
*Amp
*Subwoofer(s)

 

From what ive read, replacing the head units adds better quality sound to those bose!!!! ... next the rear 6.5's need to go!!!

 

Do the speakers.... I replaced the rears only so far... and the difference is big... The stock speakers were rated at 30W and very thin paper cone....

Head unit will not help these speakers in the least bit... except for blowing them out....lol

Yeah, from the pics I've seen, they look like crap. Okay, going to see about getting some JL XRs right away
