I'm about to place order for a sub in the 150 Watt range (rms), and my list of choices comes down to:

JL Audio 10w1v2, single voice coil
Image dynamics ID10, Dual voice coil

They both are priced about the same and I was just wondering what could be the big difference between a Dual and a Single coil if I'm not gonna hit it hard? The amp I will go with is a JL Audio A6450, when bridged, this amp produces 150W rms x 3 @ 4ohm

I wouldn't go with the bottom-of-the-barrel JL sub if I were you. A 10W6 would be worth saving for. A dual voice coil sub requires either a 2 ohm stable amp or a 2 channel amp with enough rms wattage to run each voice coil seperately. If I were you I would do some research on www.caraudio.com to see what some of the best budget subs are. You might want to look at http://www.ascendantaudio.com/assassin10specs.html

But I didn't think JL Audio A6450 will have enough power to push even a W3, that's why I was thinking about the W1, since the Amp I'm going with only produces 150 Watts, bridged @ 3 channels. I'm not into SPL, just want something supple.
decisions, decisions.......why are there some many decisions to make......

 

JL 500/1 mono amp and two 10W3's best sound best value

 

250/1 and a 10w6v2,

i ran a 10w3v2 for awhile. it was nice, you dont know what your missing until you have something better. the 10w6v2 is so much cleaner, hits harder and the bass is much much tighter. thats something you cant replace just by getting 2 subs instead of one. 500/1 is overkill even for teh 10w6v2, i bought a 500/1 thinking i needed it to push a 10w6v2. boy was i wrong. i have my gain at half on my 250/1 and its friggin loud as hell, i cant imagine turning it up past half.

 

I had this setup and didn't like it. Too much bass for the car, and the sound quality wasn't there. There is apparently a big difference between each level of JL Audio sub.
I am in the process of installing a 50x2 amp (bridged to 150x1) and a Polk MOMO 8" sub, mounted in a custom enclosure next to my spare tire. I chose the Polk MOMO because it is the only 8" sub that goes under 30 Hz, and not over 200 Hz. It runs on 150w RMS, and has a good reputation. I don't know if it will be enough for the car, but I have a hunch it will. Right now with my 6.5 JL woofers in the doors, I am able to listen to Hip-Hop without losing any deep bass frequencies. I am basically adding the sub to add the missing punch factor and get the 28-50 Hz range that my woofers don't cover.

If you want to keep the amp, you might also try a single Infinity Kappa Perfect 10. I have one in my other car and it is very clean. (Probably in your price range, too.)
