Default 2006 Enthusiast Stock Stereo and speaker questions

Hello all,

I have an 2006 enthusiast coupe... I have a few questions I hope someone can help me answer:

1) How does a 2 din aftermarket stereo look in the Z? Someone has told me that the curvature in the area where the stock stereo is placed makes a 2 din aftermarket stereo not look all that great.

2) In my previous car, a 2000 GTI VR6, the stock stereo system had an amplifier that was hidden in the back trunk. You couldn't see it b/c it was behind a cover along the side panels of the trunk. I used it to power the aftermarket stereo which i put into the GTI and bought another amp to power the new sub... Question is, does the 2006 350Z enthusiast have a sub for the stereo hidden somewhere? I would assume not b/c the stock stereo is pretty weak.

3) Is there a difference between the four 6" speakers in the enthusiast model vs. the four 6" speakers in the touring+ models? It was my understanding that the touring+ models had the BOSE sound system but I wasn't sure if it was upgraded speakers as well or just the stereo CD/MP3 player that was the upgrade

4) How would you rate the four stock 6" speakers in the enthusiast? Low end, mid-level, or high end.. pretty sure not high end....

5) For any of you who installed aftermarket stereo and kept the stock speakers, was there a huge difference in sound quality coming out of the speakers with the new stereo?

Sorry for so many questions but I want to get a new stereo system and don't know if it would make a huge difference to upgrade the 4 stock speakers b/c I have no clue where they lie on the quality scale.. All I know is that the combination of the stock stereo and stock speakers sounds aweful and I can't pinpoint whether it's the stereo or the stereo and the speakers. If the speakers are mid-level quality, i will just replace the stereo.

1. It doesnt look bad. Check out the audio subforum. I'm sure you'll be able to find some install pics there.

2. Nope. There is no hidden sub or amp anywhere in the Enthusiast.

3. Yes. The speakers in the Bose stereo are Bose speakers (along with a Bose HU). The speakers in the non-Bose are I believe Clarion (probably wrong, but I thought I heard this before somewhere). But, they are different from the Bose though. Not even interchangable.

4. I havent swapped them out yet. They sound fine to me. Most people seem to agree that a HU swap will result in a good improvement with more to gain with new speakers also.

5. Havent done so. But I have heard good things from those who have upgraded.

You'll find plenty more info by visiting the audio/video section of this board. Heres a link: https://my350z.com/forum/forumdispla...sprune=30&f=52

1. The Z is asking for a DDin.
2. No sub.
3. Touring has Bose speakers.
4. The Fronts are okay, the rears are ****. Fronts are good mids. But somewhat muddy.
5. New Headunit will definitely give you a difference sound for the better. Good headunits have so many tweaking options that will improve your sound experience even if you have stock speakers.
