Not sure if this is what you mean, but...
Hit the Audio button, should say Bass, hit the FF or REW buttons to adjust to your liking then hit Audio 4 times to return to the regular display.

i believe that bass control adjusts overall bass, not just the subwoofer amp itself, meaning your other speakres may get more bass inthem as well whcih cause them to distort earlier...
but you hit it on th ehead when you called the bose amp "crappy"
