I bet he could find some old Bazzoka tube sub, self amplified, for cheap. I haven't heard about one in years but I assume they are around.

Bingo

these will give you the boom you seem to be looking for, and a nice rattling mirror

easy...elemental designs nine2x, at close to 300, elemental designs 11ov.2 10" sub at 175

spend the rest on a box, and yes it will "shake mirrors"

and all new with warranty

I have a 12" box and a set of wires ready. I just need a mono amp and a 12" sub.

okay, elememental designs nine2x, bridged will easily putout more than 700 watts at 4ohm: $265

elemental designs 13ov.2 12" sub, dual 2ohm, $195

it will be hard to think of antoher set up that can do better in terms of output and sq with in the same price range (normal retail with warranty)

1-JL 12W3 v.2 subwoofer $180 at woofersetc.com
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2062

1-Alpine M650 mono subwoofer amplifier $220 at woofersetc.com
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2897

With the remainding $100 buy yourself a wiring kit for your amp, and wood, screws, carpet & a terminal for your speakerbox.

I heard the JL 12W3 and its loud, clean, and requires only a 1 cu. ft. enclosure. Alpine made good amps in the past. I never heard this amp before, but 600 watts sounds good for $220. The only thing I would be hesitant about is that woofersetc.com is not an authorized dealer of both products. Though they seem like a reputable company, all unautorized dealers are kinda sketchy. Well, thats my 2 cents. Good luck
