My door pod alternative
Doesn't look like the "how-to" section gets much traffic, but I posted a write-up there of my solution to the stock sound blocking door grills here:

Has anyone else done this? It cost me nothing and woorks great.

thats not bad, but IMO the blocking of hte grille issue is only a small part of what the door pods solve, abiltiy to fit deeper sepaker, and abiltiy to provide a semi-sealed environment both can dramatically affect the SQ of the system...

Perhaps. I didn't have a speaker depth issue (I used Zenclosures spacers). As for the enclosure, I'm sure it makes a little difference, but the pods are open backed, so it's not like they're sealed or anything. This setup sounds great to me and solved the issue of the stock grills while keeping the stock look. May not be the method of choice for the most serious audio heads (not saying my solution is better than pods, by any means), but it's a great cheap alternative for guys like me putting in a modest mid-level system. The difference in SQ between the stock grills and my modded ones is significant.
