Default Mounting amps on carpeted surface

Should I be concerned about heat issues when mounting my new Rockford Fosgate amps on top of automotive carpeting? I've got a P450.4 and a P600.1. The heat sinks are on the bottom. I've seen other pictures with amps on top of carpeting looked like the heat sinks were on top.

I'm thinking about fabricating little 3/4" stand offs to raise the amps off the carpeting just in case but if the temps won't get that high to worry about, I'll save the time and effort.

I don't usually crank it real loud for very long but I don't want to find out the hard way.

to be perfectly honest, if your RF amps overheat if you mount them on top of carpet, then RF has sunk to a new low and the should just move out of the amp manu. business for good.

i wouldnt worry to bge honest...

I logged a question on their web site and then decided to check the installtion guide (duh!). Sure enough, they strongly recommend against mounting them in the interior without 1" of air space around the heat sink. Would not be a problem if they didn't put the heat sink on the bottom of the amp. Don't know what they were thinking when they did that. The heat sink IS the bottom of the amp, including the mountings... Oh well. I'll just find some scrap 1" high pieces of wood, cut them into little squares, paint flat black, fasten them to the shelf and bada-bing, problem solved.

that is just...the dumbest thing i have ever seen...unless they got a active cooling system inside, heat rises upward, not downward, so justby putting a bottom mounted headsink tney are alreayd killing its efficnecy...

just mount it upside down lol

i think you have no need to worry
i think any amp can be mounted on wood with carpet on it
if you wish use 1/2" or 3/4 " plastic spacers

Thanks for all the comments, input and pics! I went with spacers because both amps are going into the compartments behind the seats where I figure there's less airflow...

I expect to have the passenger side mostly finished tomorrow after work. I'll post a pic. I'm still getting the hango of doing the details right so I'll probably take a little more time to call it "done".
