I have an 06 Pathfinder and 07 Z. I got Bose in both and neither are really cheap vehicles of course.
My mom got an 06 Sentra with the pukey Rockford Fosgate set up and has a damn Aux input right on the unit.
My friend just got an 07 Titan and got the RF unit too and has 2 Aux inputs for MP3's
WTF with Nissan man. Why not employ the same stuff?
Are the Nissan IPOD hookups only compatible with IPODs or do they work with other MP3 players?
I would like to have one to float back and forth, but it would be a pain unless I get one of those chauncey units to plug into the Cig lighter.
Suggestions? Comments? The mirror thing in the Z makes me mad too. The base gets a compass, but the more expensive does not? bleh.

As for iPod hookups, an aux input will work for any analog signal. A branded "iPod" hookup will most likely be bi-directional (sounds goes into head unit, commands go back to iPod), and will therefore probably only work with an iPod.
As for availability of sound options, it sounds to be completely decided by marketing preferences. A vehicle like the Sentra - which is targeted at the youth market - will have much more R&D time devoted to features marketing things are important to the 16-25 demographic. Your 350z will have more more development time devoted to features performance enthusiasts deem important.
I'm not saying that you aren't a car enthusiast, or that stereo options aren't important to you. I'm saying that Nissan North America's marketing department had to make a call about where to put limited engineering effort, and you are seeing the results of that.

Nissan Marketing can kiss it. lol
I agree to an extent with what you are saying though.
The IPOD hookup I saw from Nissan looks like it has an actual IPOD hookup to give full control, and then an AUX for some other things.
I gotta drop my Pathfinder off tonight for inspection so Im gonna see if I can check this thing out.
Just makes me mad. More money = more features IMO, but it doesnt seem that way these days. Its a simple plug Bose could have added

my 03's boss sucks man, if I knew earlier I would just not get the upgrade stereo package cause I took everything out, n hook myself up with some rainbows, after changing head unit, navi don't talk no more, not like it matters... I heard lots of people say after changing speakers on Z's with boss does not sound that great, I kind of know what they're saying... u need amp to go along with the new speakers... is a must, or is a waste of money...

I was an audiophile at one time, but realized with my Pathfinder, that I am really happy with the sound of the Bose and didnt need to waste money and build time anymore.
The Z is so so, but I do not want to go thru putting in subs and amps and all that anymore. I cannot touch something without going overboard.
So i swore I would get something that would keep me happy.
