Big 3 alternator wiring
I've recently discovered that adding an audio systtem to our Z can sometimes make our lights dim (flicker with the beat). Has anyone done the "Big 3" wiring yet? Pics would be GREAT! A few people suggested that doing it would eliminate the dimming. Sounds like a great alternative to having to replace a batttery or alternator. Thanks everyone.

I did the big 3, but eventually had to get a new hefftier battery also after I toasted the OEM battery. No biggie, it comes with the territory.

I haven't gotten around to doing it to the Z yet, but have done the big-3 in several past cars and it does improve the electrical performance. The big-3 is adding (or replacing) 3 ground wires. You can google "big 3" and find numerous how-to's for this. I usually also replace the wire from the alternator to the battery and the wire from the battery to the fuse panel with upgraded wiring (both of which should only be done if you KNOW what you are doing and using fusible links).
What it does is increase the current flow. It is not meant to work miracles. In some cases it will correct dimming lights, in other cases it won't because there may be just too much current draw by your audio system. in these cases, the best FIX is an upgraded alternator.
As I brought up in a previous post about alternators, IF the Nissan Quest alternator is a direct bolt on for the Z, it will provide an additional 20 amps over the stock Z alternator. 20 amps can go a long way in an audio system, as you are rarely (if ever) pushing the max on a properly tuned and set up audio system.
I have a 700watt system and have zero dimming on a completely stock electrical system. Both of my amps are class-D, so that helps out a lot
