Default Sub Box Setup...

I have received my 2 10" Cerwin Vega Strokers. I was thinking of getting a enclosure under the rear struts from ebay. Problem is that I need more than .81 cubic foot and more than just 6 7/8" mounting depth. I want about 1+ cubic foot w/o speaker and about 8-8.5" (possibly more) mounting depth. So this means that I have to custom build it myself.

I have some mocked photos of how the subs will be. Should I build the box similar to "under the struts" box and have the subs firing to the back?

Or should I have it firing up or angled? It won't have the stealth look like the "under the struts" box.

for those subs and the amount of air space they need I would probably just aim them back and build the box to extend towards the seats as much as you need and then put a cover over it.

This is the cover I use on mine

i second that. I had to build a custom box for my woofer also since i need 8" of mouting depth and only .6cu ft. It was very simple. look down a few post to see mine.

I like the way your box sit. I hope to give 5 extra inches behind my magnet and possibly port it with a 3" wide plastic plumbing tube. Not sure if I want the tube aiming up or not. How did you cut your hole? Thinking about running to either Lowe's or Home Depot and buying some kind of router that cuts perfect holes. Please let me know any tricks. Yes, I've read your post and it's encouraging. I have bookmarked your post so that I can write a step by step when I build mine.

a router with a circular guide is all you need to cut the holes.

How much spacing do you have after your magnet? Looks like it sits in front of the strut. Is yours ported? Thanks.

have a few inches behind it. it is not ported, I like the base a sealed box produces.

Definatley fire the port and the subs to the rear of the hatch. Ported shouldnt be a problem as long as you have the space to mount the 3" port. to cut my holes i use a porter cables router and a jasper cutting jig. partsexpress.com sell the jig and its a life saver. I also recommend using precision ports from http://psp-inc.com/ The flared ports will help cut down on possible port noise.

Ok, update. I have bought myself a used router without bits. What bits are recommended since I will be using it on 2 MDF that is 3/4" each for the front? I'm not sure if there's a bit that will be able to do the job?

Very nice subs man, those strokers kick ***. Definitely use a rear-firing enclosure. Zenclosures makes great stuff, but if you plan to build yourself, something like this is the way to go http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/350z-...7452QQtcZphoto
If you are saying you plan to use double-stacked 3/4" MDF for the face, you could always use a jigsaw and cut one at a time. I don't own a router and have never needed one to create close-to-perfect sub cutouts.

the 1 inch cutting length would work for the 3/4 MDF

Thanks all. I will be posting pictures when I'm done. A bit excited and at the same time exhausted.

good luck, those things are definetly among my LAST choices for subs in the Z, with their large enclosure recommendatoins...are yo ugoing for all out SPL?

if so, then build ported enclosures for htem in the trunk floor and fire them up...

i guess other than all out SPL i am not quite sure why anyone would use a stroker, much less two of them, in a Z

in the end, if you are using strokers, space saving should be ehte last thing you think about hehe

Yeah, I wanted to get a 2 ohms stroker, but couldn't pass on 2 4 ohms for a few more dollars. Of course, it's used (4 ohms) compared to the new 2ohms.

I tried using the factory sub location in many different applications and finally went with this, other pics are on link like where I hide the nitrous bottle, amp rack, and the 6 sets of components

get the under stut enclosure
add a 2nd baffle
this will move your subs out 3/4" and also add an extra 3/4 " of space toward mounting depth
and will also bring up you net volume closer to were you want to be
also will make less flex in face
