i don't think its much a problem of air space.. its that the 12" doesn't fit under the strut bar with a box.. the diameter is too large.. thats why most 12 under the strut boxes i have seen have the sub opening sticking outside of the strut bar opening..
It should fit between the seats and the bar at an angle or even rear facing like doug posted below, I havent tried, but know almost anything is possible with fiberglass. Once again go to the link I put up and see if they would do something for you and they are local.

thats from http://www.tccustomz.com i'm sure if you talk to them they could build you a single 12 sticking out like that
i guess i am confused
what i am gathering is the poster wants a
1 each 12" w7
1 each under strut bar
if the sub needs 1.375 for 1 each 12" sealed
i next need to know how much space the single 12" under strut bar provides
so i can see the difference that needs to be made up

get the Rd Audio Classic
works sealed very well
in that space of the single 12" understrut box
get a RD 1000.1 to push it
and you be banging so hard, so clean , so low
and again for less $ than a w7 & jl amp
i got the RD hook up

A W7 12" will require a custom box for the location you're requesting. Not only that but if you're putting a W7 in there it needs to be very well reinforced (especially if it's fiberglass). I have 1 12" Kicker which I like alot. Here's a horrible pic (sorry it's the only one's I have right now in my office) of my box that I built with 2 TV's one on each side of the sub.
