nakamichi hu / speakers ?
I am going to buy the nakamichi cd-400 hu. It is listed as having a maximum power output of 47W per channel. I would like to install it with the infinity 6000cs speakers rated at 90w / channel rms.
For the time being, I don't want to put an amplifier also. I am not looking for an extremely loud system, just high quality sound (at a reasonable price).
With these power ratings, do I have to put an amplifier. If I don't, what will be the result.... distortion at high volume? speaker damage? etc?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not a car audio expert, but it seems to me that if you were to put some bass blockers on the lines to the Infinity's, it would be less of a load on the head unit's internal amp, allowing it to run cleanly. Bass really sucks up the power so by relieving the Infinity's from that duty, they'll deliver cleaner sound. You can get an Infinity Bass Link or Bazooka tube (internally powered) on Ebay for relatively cheap to handle the low frequencies. Unless you listen to music at ear splitting levels, I'll bet you'll be more than satisfied with such a setup, especially since the Nak will give you very clean sound. Hope this helps.
The head unit is 47W peak.. which translates into around 23w rms. If the speakers are 90w rms, you are only giving them about 1/4 the power they want.
It will sound better than stock for sure, but you have plenty of room to play.
