$679 for the Avic D3 on amazon, i never bought anything from there before but it seems like a good deal. and i was wondering can you disable the ignition feature, so you'll be able to drive and play dvd's.

They are the best place to order from because they warranty the radio themselves for one year. (not from pioneer.)

Beware of the other bargain sites because if they aren't pioneer authorized dealers (none of them are.) then there is NO WARRANTY at all on the Avic.

 

Question on the D3:

If you had an additional screen hooked up to the D3, does it have the multi source ability to go an display one screen x and other screen as y?

 

I am wondering the same thing, does anyone know?

Go for it. To perform the bypass just switch the mute wire 180 degrees in the PIN and ground it along with the parking brake sensor

 

the prices on cartronix are great. Does anyone know if the Pioneer AVIC 2Z can be used in conjuntion with steering wheel radio controls on an '06 Z. I am new to car electronics. I realize other models can be hooked up with a wire attachment but cannot recall which one.

you can get the AVIC D3 for pretty cheap now... They can be found for around $500

 

With the $200 MIR on top of that too.

Just make sure if you expect to get the $200 MIR from Pioneer that you're buying from an authorized retailer. Most of the guys selling for $500 on the 'net are not authorized retailers and, in all likelihood, Pio will deny the rebate if that's the case.
