Default Does Bose HU control bass response or their amp?

I have had my Bose amps and speakers removed but kept the headunit for looks. Sometimes the bass response to my new subwoofer gets louder and boomier during the song then goes back to normal. Doesn't correspond with volume level changes- it is just the bass. Could the head unit be doing this as I have noticed this happening using both cd player and mp3 player via cassette tape?

Did you disable the autopilot? It could be the autopilot playing tricks on you...

There is a trick to disable it with a resistor where the mic is. Search for 0.20 Bose Fix.

I thought controls were in the amp. Because I have an older build, and was affected by the TSB to replace the amp. The problem was overbearing Bass when listening to the radio. After they replaced the amp, the radio can be used now, but the whole system seems low on power.

yeah you can try the autopilot fix, but it didnt work for me. i tried completley removing the microphone but to my astonishment it continued to "act weird". and by weird i dont mean that it continued to operate like the microphone was still in place, but it seemed like the bass would turn down during hard acceleration. at first i thought that the engine somehow communicated with the stereo in terms of rpms for the autopilot. i could be wrong but after looking at the fsm wiring diagrams i couldnt find anything that would correlate this theory. finally after having the bose unit for 9 months (and changing out the stock sub and adding an amp for it) i decided to scrap the bose. im sad to see it go (not really, just the six disc changer) but it had to go eventually.
