Question 06 factory radio harness

Im replacing my factory radio and I cant figure out what the brown quick connector is for. There are the two larger white quick connectors that have all the main connections, but the smaller brown one has no matching receptacle on the after market "crutchfield" wire harness adapter. Everything seems to work except the rear speakers sound weak. I get sound from them but the fronts are way more full and louder. Im wondering if this is due to the brown harness. Or perhaps it's some other issue that Ive overlooked. Anyone with the similar problem?

When I installed my Alpine W-200,,I didnt use the brown plug. I taped it off and tucked it behind. I only used the two white harness/plugs. As for the rear speakers being soft,,,mine were 32ohm speakers from the factory. When I exchanged the rear with a basic Alpine SPS17C2 6.5 speaker,,it made a huge difference. Although, I have my front stage amped,,and rear playing off the headunit. I like a little rear fill, but not much. Especially in this car...just my 2 cents. I hope this helps.

Let me take a couple guesses:

1) You have a base model? No steering wheel controls.

The brown connector in my '07 was the one I tapped for my steering wheel interface.

2) You only replaced the head unit, not the speakers?

If you left the stock speakers in, the rears have some wierd impedance around 32 ohms I believe. Which, basically, means if you're TRYING to hear them up by your head... you're going to notice that you almost can't. They're not broke, that's the way Nissan (...or Bose...) wanted them to sound.

Replace those speakers with some "standard" 4 ohm drivers and you'll find you can hear them fine! Good Lord they're blasting right into your ears!

Regards,
Clark

Thanks guys. I do see the logic. The rears are right behind your head. I do wish though that they were a little bit louder. The thought occured to me to wire the rears to the fronts (but that changes the impedence of the signal??). I can't remember any of the technical stuff off the top of my head. The power output of the alpine is rated 4ohms. I will say this, The new headunit makes the fronts sound impressive.
