Garmin Nuvi GPS Mount in 2006 350Z Cubby Hole
I mounted the GPS unit I got for Christmas last week, a Garmin Nuvi 250W. Here's how it turned out!

The tough part is thinking up places to visit that I don't know how to get to! Maybe I'll just drive around Chicago till I get completely lost...

ah not a BIG fan of that idea... i got same GPS and i just have in on my windshiedl and when not in use in my arm rest.... i would hate to have it your way cause that lid is open and its in a way! i tried doing what you did at first but wow it was SOOOO hard to view the gps in that possition and constantly need to turn head to the side to see if you heading right direction...... so yeah.... nothing special bro....

^^^ and oh yeah forgot bout my advise..... just be normal and stick it on your windshield is it was ment to be done properly! =D ... if you want it in your cubby area then invest in real indash NAVI! =D

Ahh come on now, my first mod and I love it. Sounds like you tried and then gave up. Having such little windshield space anyway, I save it whenever I can. The cubby works perfectly, full reception, and the lid closes. You can tilt it, remove it, and close to lid when you leave the car cuz you know these things get stolen all the time (by busting your window too). Definitely better than a built in nav !!

Luckily I'm tall enough that the open lid doesn't obstruct my view of the gauges, or anything else, I hardly notice it. I never even gave it much thought, it doesn't seem to bother me, but I could see how some people wouldn't want that.
... i hope it doesn't annoy me now that i'll be thinking about it! ...

I did mine that way too, I have a nuvi 650. One thing I did different was to integrate the power line through the back. You take apart the center console and just hide the wire behind everything and run it through the cubby. I did that with my ipod adapter and both fit in the cubby fine.

^^ +1 on his question
how are you able to connect the GPS without it showing in the front?
man ive been wanting to put in a DVD player but the complexity of the wiring and mounting it correctly is scaring me off

You guys are haters! it is a mod, to op's modifications are went out of his way to get an optional arm, coverted a not very pratical cubby into a useful one & most important he achieves his tasks through tweaking the conventional mounting or the manufacturer's mounting position. Plus with the extra arm he can benifit from it's portabilty aspect. Stock navi sucks anyways, this is much better.
Mddubs: I would recommend though that the wire needs to be hidden by taking the extra step of dismantling your dash to achieve an important characteristic of this install which is stealthyness. Good job and not taking the cookie cutter approach!

Looks dope, Do not agree with all the haters, the lid doesnt get in the way of anything.
However I do not see the trouble of putting in the mounting units
My TOMTOM fits in their perfectly no mod needed.
This looks way better than mouting the unit on the windshield, which I think is very tacky

Yep, sure does, and it's even better than having a map across the passenger seat. Once again mddubs good job man, oh and also for the link to the page about your procedures I think this might encourage more people to do something like this!
