Default Which Amp for one 10" JL W6 & components?

So i did some searching and consulting, and so far have decided to go with the following for my system:
-1 10" Zenclosure (love the semi-stock look)
-1 JL 10" W6 or W3.. still not sure if W6 or W3 (Have had JL's before and was happy, in fact my buddy is still running my old 2x10" JL w3s setup that i sold him with great sound and zero problems... its been atleast 6 years now!!!)
-Boston Acoustics components (Recommended by good friend who used to install for Best Buy)

Now all i need is an amp to power the sub and the components...

The Sound Im going for:
I'm going for QUALITY. Im not one of those guys that needs to bang the loudest and rattle everyone at a light... I listen to all kinds of music, from Rap to Alternative to Country, and i want all of these genres to sound great on my system. But dont get me wrong, i still want great, loud bass when im listening to Rap... I had 2x10" JL W3s in my Blazer about 4 years ago and i liked the way that sounded (maybe that gives you a somewhat of an idea of the bass im looking for)

Anyways...

My friend keeps telling me to buy a used PPI amp (pre year 2000).. apparently the PPI amps after 2000 are not as good due to new ownership or something like that... I would rather not buy used though..

Upon searching i came across the Crossfire amps, and now im looking at that.. Would you guys recommend this: http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=5783

Thats really all i have so far... PLEASE HELP ME CHOOSE AN AMP!!!!

Thanks so much in advance

P.S. Any other comments or suggestions (regarding my choices) are certainly welcome...

go with the w6.... but if you have money $ go for the w7 you cant get better then a jl audio w7 that is the best sub right now but its a lot of money

now if you need a amp for that

if you want nice sound
jl audio 500/1

if you want ur car shakein
jl audio 1000/1

Components are a very personal item. People like different timbres. For anyone to tell anyone else what that other person should like for sound is kind of short sighted. That said, I can tell you that Boston's comps are NOT for everyone. They do tend to be bright and punchy. Some like it that way......some don't. I like Boston's offereings, Get_Zwole doesn't.

OP, which Boston set are you looking at?

Getting a used PPI is not a route most people should go. They are very power hungry and although they are SQ beasts, they are also older technology. You also need to make SURE that what you are buying is in good condition. That's hard to do over eBay. Your friends are correct that PPI isn't the same company it used to be since they got purchased by DEI. I wouldn't say their stuff if garbage, but it surely is nothing like it used to be back in the Art Series days.

As for the crossfire amp, I really like crossfire. Their amps are bulletproof.

More info is needed to make a better choice:
Why are you looking at just 1 amp as opposed to 2?
What component set exactly are you getting?
What sub exactly are you getting?
Where are you mounting the amp?
What headunit/processor are you using?

my rule of thumb for buying amps is:
1) Get a respected brand
2) Get as much power as you can afford (without going overboard).

1. I'm a bit on a budget... I dont want to spend more than $250 on amp(s), and i figured one good 4-channel amp would be enough.
2. Not sure exactly, but it will be something from Boston Acoustics, mounted in the doors.. not gonna change out the headrest speakers.
3. I pretty much want one JL Audio 10" W6.
4. I will be mounting the amp either on the Zenclosure or the Zenclosure RACK.
5. I have the Sony XPlod headunit. Its pretty cheap, but i forgot the exact model... ill check later.

Thanks so much

I use a JL 500/1 to power my JL 10w6v2, and it sounds clean. My front components are BA Z6's, bi-amped with a JL 450/4, 150x2 to the mid-bass and 75x2 to the tweets. The rears are Polk SR6500, powered by a JL e2150 (75x2)

Yeah man, I wasn't trying to imply you were at all. It's all good. I just wanted to make the OP aware that he really should LISTEN to comps before buying.
