Default Need advice on upgrading headunit but keeping everything stock

Hey Everyone

My bose cd changer doesnt work anymore and I'm looking at upgrading the headunit. What is involved in doing this? Do I need any special adapters to make it work with my bose speakers, amp, sub....and what is the quality going to be like...

I've checked around locally with some car audio shops and everyone tells me that after all is said and done, i'm looking probably at $1000-1500 with all equipment, wiring, install, etc (this includes a headunit, amp to drive a sub and the rewiring of the bose system).

It seems a bit pricey so I"m wondering if a headunit upgrade will be ok to do without touching the other components. Thanks

Why not just get a used identical head unit off the forum?

My bose headunit conked out on me too, the discs got stuck. I got the Avic 3 and it sounds better than it did with the bose head unit. Not anything special, but better.
