Question 1/0 Gaue Amp Kit Recomendation

Believe me, I have searched and searched but feel free to post a link to a thread and make me feel stupid (like how I misspelled recommendation AND gauge in the title (doh!))

I used to have one JL 300/4 but have added a JL 500/1 and want to replace all the power wiring with 1/0 gauge to a new Optima Yellow Top I just bought today. Any recommendations?

Would this KICKER PKD1 1/0 GAUGE DUAL AMPLIFIER KIT AMP be sufficient or can someone recommend a better or cheaper kit? I thought JL had a 0 gauge kit but can't find it anywhere but do brand names matter for these wires or kits?

0 guage is kinda overkill...I know cause I went the same route. but elemental designs has a nice kit or just peice one together yourself.

I'm sure I could get away with a 2 gauge kit that JL does offer (but costs more than the 1/0 kicker kit) but I'd hate to redo the wiring later if I add even more watts.

I'm gonna check out that elemental designs kit, thanks.

Any links to sites with good deals would be much appreciated.

Not trying to steal your thread, but how do you plan on routing the 1/0 through the car? I am considering going this route and need some help!

Yeah, about that...When it was originally installed it was just a 300/4 with an 8 gauge and now the 500/1 is piggy backed onto it with a little glass fuse. Ghetto, I know. Do you guys think this could have something to do with my battery going bad in six months or could I have another parasitic drain?

It doesn't look like the elemental designs comes in a dual amp kit so I might just go for the 2 gauge JL dual amp kit and do a 1/0 ground wire. A good fuse setup is important to me since I blew so many with my piggy back fuse attack.

Link to a good deal on a dual amp kit, 2 or 1/0 gauge, would be appreciated (any vendors listening PM me.)

You might save a few bucks if you go the ebay route though...but I was pretty pleased.

I saw this after you recommended it earlier but is this a single amp kit? I have two amps, the JL 300/4 and 500/1.

Also I read in another thread about doing a 0 gauge ground as it is part of the "big three" things to do to improve car audio. Is the ground included in these kits or do I just have to get an extra short 0 gauge to ground from the battery?

I have 2 amps as well...just get another fuse holder/fuse and some 4 guage wire
and your good. Stinger has some good alternatives.

Thanks again Crom. Those Stingers look almost identical to the Elemental Designs kit you recommended earlier and cost about half the price.

As for the knuconcepts, it looks like this uses a traditional glass fuse so I'll probably stay away from this one.

I'm between the Stinger 1/0 kit and buying all the extra wire to get the 2nd amp to work or the JL dual amp 2 gauge kit. Both will cost about the same so its either overkill 0 gauge and a tougher install OR brand ***** JL and ONLY 2 gauge.

With either of these kits will I have to buy a short 0 gauge to ground or can I just cut off some extra wire (only 2 gauge with the JL kit) and use that to ground off the battery?

I just checked, and for this 1/0 guage kit, they offer up to 200A or 250A which would be a ANL fuse(non-glass).

I'd spend good money on something like RCA cables, but for these items, the brand name products are really no better.

I ran 0 gauge and it can be ran pretty much the same way as any other wire. Just it is a little harder to run in curves.

just make sure your wire is OFC (oxygen free copper) i ran 0ga will little trouble, but it's def overkill, IMO if i did it over again i would run 4 ga. knuconcepts, stinger wire are both good.

That Kicker PKD1 is great; really flexible cable. I have it myself.

You are running 800 watts rms. 0awg is overkill....save some money and use 4awg. You still have overhead if you upgrade.

0awg is rated:
330 amps max current flow, 2731 watts class a/b, 3414 watts class d

4awg is rated:
131 amps max current flow, 1084 watts class a/b, 1355 watts class d

BTW, max recommended fuse ratings:
0awg - 325
4awg - 125

There are a few wire calculators on this page: http://www.bcae1.com/wire.htm

Good info for anyone wanting to peice a system together...I had to track down this info the hard way when I was doing mine.
