From the service manual it seems to be in the center, under the center console (behind the screen)

Mmm... GPS receivers MUST have clear view of the sky/satellites. The GPS signal is weak and can't punch through much.

If anything it should be exposed in the front windshield. It's probably very small too. So the location sounds okay but being embedded in the dash doesn't sound quite right.

Actually, I think some of the newer gps antennae does not need line of site to the sky.... I have yet to try it to place it where the stock gps location is but I was able to get 6-7 lock on inside my house. I'm using delorme's usb version. Thus I would assume if you can get signal through a roof of a house, you shouldn't have a problem getting signal through the roof of a car.

Once I tested it, I'll post results on here as well.. until then, anyone else have real experiences?

I got the CoPilot GPS, and I placed the antennae where the stock would be. in the center under the dash. works fine for me.

Doc Bonz has his next to the right rear speaker. It's got a clear view of the roof

Hahah yeah maybe it's just my handheld Garmin. It's a dinky unpowered antenna which might make all the difference.
