Box placement questions, Which would be better?
Hey guys,
so im wondering about theese two boxes placement....
There is this style, that holds 2 twelve" speakers, but is facing foward and up into the cabin;

and then this style that holds 2 10" speakers that faces rear and shoots toward the glass;

Which do you guys think is the better to go with?
I have a pioneer 6900 head unit, kicker RS components in front, kicker KS components in rear, kicker 350.4 amp for highs, and i will be getting a kicker 1000.1 for the subs which will be eaither two 10" or 12" kicker CVX subs.

I have the second one. I can't see the first picture but I think I have the idea. Try and see if you can do the first one, but take out the spare tire and have them create a box in that same compartment. It would be sick.
+1 on seeing the first photo. I also have the second box,,,from Mike at Zenclosures. It suits all my needs and I have plenty of space in front and behind the box. (I guess plenty of space would depend on what you might need to carry). If I remember correctly, Mike at Zenclosures is making their "Type S" box that holds 12's now. I would really like to hear how that sounds. Although,,again my dual 10 set-up is perfect for my type of listening. Just my opinion.
Facing towards the glass is better IMO.
It looks better, and the sound is shot out the rear, causing the sound to bounce around in the trunk area causing a louder, deeper sound.
I could be wrong.

Woofers that fire toward the rear of the car always produce more sound, and in the small cabin of the 350Z 10" speakers sound more accurate than 12" speakers due to the shorter wavelength. I just completed a system for my buddies girlfriend in her 350 and I built a rearward firing box that fits in the area between the rear speaker pod and the strut bar that houses two 8" Kicker CVR's, and it sounds amazing. Sure, you can't hear the bass from 3 blocks away, but it has a ton of punch and sounds far more musical than the last 350 that I installed a single 12" woofer in. The 12" box that is in the picture looks cool, but I can guarantee that the 10" box would sound better. It is impossible to get great sound quality with 12" speakers when they are 10" away from your ears. Another thing you need to consider is the size of the box. It is very important that you get a box that has the right amount of internal volume for whichever speakers you get or they wont sound right. Most of the "prefab" boxes for the 350z that I have seen are too small for most woofers, so you may consider having a box made specifically for the woofers you end up getting.

first box FTW
looks dope.....
But for real....
depending on which subwoofers you choose and what you use to power them I think will hold the final outcome
if i were you id probably do 2 12" Image dynamics IDQ's right there with about 4-500 watts a piece.... would probably sound really nice with the right front stage.

I tested a sealed 10" box in my car in all directions.
Facing forward produced the most "revealing" bass sound. i.e. you heard every nuance of the speaker.
Facing sideways, up and back all produced very similar sounds- producing a more "smooth" bass or muted sound due to cabin gain etc.

I was talking about the box in the picture with the 12" subs mounted right behind the headrests of the seats. I'm not trying to come accross as a a$$hole, but but I know what I'm talking about as I've been a MECP installer for 13 years and have made well over 750 custom boxes.

Thanks for the comments. I got all of the front stage installed today, spent a couple hours tuning it, really sounds great. Still havent decided on a sub setup yet, i think im going with 2 kicker CVX 10s.

I'm thinking of doing a pair of 8s and one 10 to get the best punch and low-end push I really want. anybody done this before? I was gonna do a rear facing enclosure between the rear speakers and the strut bar and drive it all from 1 amp.
