V1 is the next best thing to having a brother on the police force.

I personally use the valentine one, but there are others that are acceptable.

I've got a Passport 8500 that I've been happy with but my buddy just got the new 9500 (he paid about $500 for it) and we took it on a road trip last week. I was impressed with it - quicker alerts and fewer false alarms (and gps based speed/ speed trap settings). The one knock on it is that we think it was screwing up his GPS based navigation...

I don't think I've ever heard anybody with a Valentine 1 complain about theirs, either though so this is pretty much a how much do you want to spend what features do you like and all of that. With the exception of the relatively new 9500, the V1, and 8500 are still probably the best two on the market (and the most expensive) so any of the year old threads are still probably relevant.

Half of us will say "V1", the other half "Passport".

My advice is "do your research and make your decision".

Valentine and Passport use to be the same company... until Passport became more commercialized..then Valentine started to make his own brand...

My brother got a ticket with his Passport on his 1st day of using it.. cop used a laser

I have yet (and hopefully wont) to receive a ticket with my Valentine... when cops also used lasers

Hey man, by no means do I want to insinuate like I am "stealing" your post. I to am too, on same boat your on. I would like to ask if any one has experience with the passport SRX. I am deciding whether to get the V1 or the SRX. The SRX is hidden small and can mount anywhere with two radar detectors and two laser jammers on the front and back of the vehicle. The V1 has hands down proven performance that works, no doubt, but is in my opinion, big, bulky and sticks out like a soar thumb to the wrong people that do not need to know you have such a thing.

Yea man I have had my V1 for a couple of years now and it has saved me quite a few times. The range on it is excellent, its easy to use/read, and it shows you the direction of the radar, which is a plus. When the police use radar or auto-on though just hope your not the only one on the road otherwise you are pretty much screwed if speeding. Goodluck

I have the passport 9500 as well as a shifter and have never had any problems... I have got to say I had my 8500 before that for something like 7 years and just upgraded.... That thing is still ticking !! Great product

I'm going to go ahead and just get both of them and see what pans out to be the better choice.

I believe the SRX is the same radar detector as the SR7. I'm not completely certain though. The SRX is simply just the SR7 with the ZR3 (or possibly ZR4, but I don't think it is) laser jammer in one package.

The SRX actually only has one radar detecting head on the front of your car, with three total laser jamming heads (two for front, one for back).

Radar detection is relatively good with the SR7, but the jamming capability of the ZR3 (and ZR4 for that matter) is not very good. There are better alternatives for similar cost.

While a concealed unit like the SR7 is obviously small compared to a dash mounted detector like the V1, the V1 (contrary to how it looks) is actually one of the smaller detectors in many aspects. In my experience, the RX-65 is the only one that is perhaps smaller.

Anyway, SR7 detection capabilities can be found here:

Laser jamming capabilities of the "Shifter" ZR3 can be found here:
