Dash pods.... 3" midrange and tweeter right up on the dash. Unbelievable sound. I have the only pair in existence ...... for sale.

I think molding the mid and tweet in the A-pillar would look nicer. It's quite a bit of work but I think keeping the midrange and the tweeter close to one another would be ideal.

In a perfect world, the three speakers would be close to each other up high on the dash and facing the listener. But I feel of the two choices in the car, the midrange and tweeter should be the closer pair... v.s. the midbass and midrange.

I can't imagine having a midrange in the door panel.... unless you have loads of time alignment.... and even then.

Yes... the closer the speaker to the listener, the louder it will appear... v.s. the opposite side causing the sound stage to lean to one side. The goal should be a centered sound stage. Time alignment allows you to delay the closer side so the sound from each speaker or set of speakers arrives at your ears at the same time giving you that centered soundstage.

Yup.... Kwame's car is sweeeeeeet. But his was done RIGHT. Re-upholster the entire door panel etc... used TOP quality components.... i.e. if you wanna play... you gotta pay.

I would have loved to compare sound systems with him.

FWIW- This was mine.

i guess the issue comes down to your own preference, do you want the best SQ possible from all aspects of SQ?

alot also depends on the tuning ability of your system...want to give a run down of what else you plan to run?

my opinion is...

if you are yoing active, have time alignment, doing mid and tweet in kicks is a good option, produce a nicely centered imagine, decently high stage but you will have a bit of rainbowing to the stage height, tonality wise its not bad, but you will get some midrange clarity issues with the mid locaiton, but again, for running passive with not much tuning, it can sound quite good out of hte box.

if you are going to run active, wtih TA and all the other aiblity for tuning, for the Z, i honestly suggest a two way, with tweeter in the A pillars. if you want, you can mold a 3" midrange up there, but its going to look like a giant tumor coming out of hte relatively small A pillar. unless you mold it down into the dash area, whcih then you in effect, have a dash pod with pillar attached to it, but as you said, its not something you want.

i myself, will never use the door for mounting anyting but maybe a door pod midbass. putting the midrange, whcih is the most sensitive sepaker interms of localization, that close to one side, is toing to result in very unnatural pulling of the image. (sorry kwame hehe)...totally it may be fine, but again, its my own opinion.

I will be doing dashpods with a 4" Hybrid Audio and a DD T28 soft dome tweet. I want to take more time and consideration in aiming them properly to the driver's ears than making them look like they fit 'smoothly'. I will also be doing a DD 6.75" Midbass driver in a separate door pod facing a little more up and of course being a lot better sealed off from the door panel itself. The 'pod' will be glassed and attached to the outside of the door panel. I have a really cool design that will make it sound and look incredible. Pics will be posted of course.

I am running full active as well with three separate 2-channel amplifiers running a driver per channel. Audiocontrol will EQ the system.

Here is an example of a dash pod I did in an '04 Range Rover. The customer did not want to cut or modify anything so I had to use his factory air vent holes to mount them. He has been winning SQ trophies with these Hybrid Audios ever since. He's using a F#1 Status head unit.
