Default Surface Scratch on LCD: HELP??

Hey guys,

I've searched but couldn't find an answer. So a few weeks ago, I dropped my garage door opener and scratched my LCD screen. The image, itself, is not affected but the outer plastic screen has been cut. I've tried everything from Meguiar's scratch remover to mild rubbing compounds but the scratch is just too deep. It's basically a tear in the outer plastic. It's about a quarter of an inch long and is not driving me bananas.

Short of replacing the whole head unit, does anyone know of any fixes?

I've attached a couple of pictures of it, it's on the upper-left hand side.

Any positive inputs would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response. Well, I tried the Meguiar's and another rubbing compound...all they do is make the scratch smoother. I was thinking some super-glue or heat. The plastic is cut, not scratched so the rubbing stuff won't fix it.

i believe super glue melts the plastic or something, so its not a good idea.

the phone screen scratch remover is like a thin resin, it fills in scratches and will appear better if not gone.

If it is scratched / deep cut I would call Eclipse and see if you can order the part. i did it for an Alpine dd 3 cd/md about 8 years ago. I took it apart and was very careful not to scratch it. Came out great just time consuming. Or call a service center to see how much it would be to fix it.

you'll probably have to turn the power off when it is open to have access. Call Eclipse also for tech support to see if it is a simple snap on/ snap off piece and doesn't require any special tools.

I did a bit of research cuz I scratched my screen on the shift **** during the install... I found stuff called apple sauce. It was made for touch screens like the ipods. As far as the screen being cut then it wouldn't work. Applying heat will hurt your head unit or the crystal elements behind the plastic. You can get a parts manual for your head unit and find the plastic screen. They are usually about $50 and if you are confident in your abilities you can replace the screen yourself.

I use a product called DISPLEX for cel phone screens and faceplates. Most of these products are like a cut polish that takes some plastic away to go beneath the scratch. On a matte screen it can make it look a little shinier which can be annoying.

I had a deep scratch on my Pioneer Z1 screen so I brought it to my local repair shop and they replaced it for a reasonable $130 CDN (about $100 US) including parts. After I got it back it looked brand new. You may be able to do the same for your Eclipse.
