The Viper 7901 is scheduled to start shipping in April/May. The 5901 is shipping now and is also a One mile alarm/remote start unit, and happens to be very nice. However, having played around with the 7901 at CES this month I can tell you that the 7901 is just amazing. I posted a short video on the Responder HD units on my blog http://caraudiokharma.blogspot.com/2...ces-viper.html
I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out to me to find out more if you're interested.

what exactly makes this worth so much more then the 5901, 5900, clifford 50.7x, python equivalant etc? the only new features that are jumping out at me is the new remote, color oled etc.

Voice module for the 5901, honestly it might have more "bling" factor than actual security. It's pretty cool though.
Door panels removed on your Z?
I don't want to mislead you...I work in sales, but I can't imagine why the panels were removed unless you were having an issue with door actuators or window roll up module.

You're right about there not being a huge difference between the new 5901 and the soon to be released 7901. The difference in cost is $549 on the LC3 (MAP pricing) to $699 (MAP pricing) on the HD Responder. Feature wise the difference is:

Priority Graphical User Interface and patented menu wheel
Full color animated command confirmation and event notification
Full menu driven remote programmability and system configuration

Having played around with the demo units at CES, I can tell you that it's the easiest remote to operate that I've ever used.
