Default Double Sized Dash Cover?

Hey folks,

Guess I should start by saying I'm new to the boards--so...hi! I'll further introduce myself at a thread location thats more appropriate but I have a quick question--

My Z has the nav and bose system installed; I want to replace the factory radio with one of the touch screen dvd units that are not motorized and just sit stationary in place of the stock bose radio.

My concern is that I live in Philadelphia and don't want it the unit to be exposed due to the fact there may come a time when I have to park in not so good areas for extended periods of time. My tint is already dark enough that you can't see in to the car too well at night, but I would still feel safer having some kind of cover that pulls closed--like the nav display has above it.

Do any of these units come with any kind of a covering, can I buy one, or is this something im just going to have to rig up on my own?

Thanks!

-Mike

My friend was looking at some double DIN's the other day and he found one that came with a cover, but I don't know the brand, size or anything. I will let you know tomorrow.

Here's what I did. Magnets and a butt-load of Dremeling.
I'm thinking about trying to recess it more, but I'd have to shorten the stereo brackets to do it.

lol, I like the fact you used the factory interface as your cover ^_________^

I was already thinking about ghetto rigging some kind of magnetic interface, no qualms about doing something simple like that--but if I can get something done professionally or just buy some kind of covered bracket to sit the actual radio in it would make things easy...

If a mounting harness with a sliding door doesn't exist someone call the patent office! :P

With the tint, you can't even tell it. Unless of course, you shine a flashlight in and know what you're looking for. That's why I might try to recess it when the weather gets better. I've got the HU set to tilt when I turn the key on, so you can grab the faceplate and pitch it into the seat. I put magnets on the backside of the Metra kit as well as the cover.

Wish I could say it was an original idea. Another guy did the same thing before I did.

Another idea would be to trim down a cubby door to do he same thing. I guarantee it would take a lot less work.
