Wireless Internet, interested?
I work for a company that makes wireless internet products. I am trying to determine the market potential for a USB wireless CDMA modem. (plug it in your USB port and you have cable modem speed-internet access in any location that your cell phone works)
For those of you with an in car PC (or those considering it), do you want high speed internet access? What would you pay and what would you expect from the service?

I would be intrested if the connection was half way decent say at leats 5 mbps. As for the charge I think 20 bucks a month sounds about right. Anymore than that and the cost would keep many from gettig it.
It will be a small group of people unless you start to push it to laptop users. Also coverage needs to be in a least the major cities in each state. And for me Austin, Tx would have to be on that list.

wow, that would be fast. I think my earthlink home cable will max out at 2mbps.
I don't have a pc in my car yet, but it would be nice to have for an extra $20 on top of my current cable bill. For $20 though, I would imagine I would be capped at how much I can download.
I am a newb to this so bear with me.
I have a cell phone in my car in addition to the PC. I would be interested possibly in internet connection in my car. Would this work THROUGH my cellphone or would the computer do this on it's own, independant of my cell? In other words, can you be connected to the internet and still make/take calls on the cell at the same time?
Thanks.

How about a G3 connection. How about something in the 144 to 155 Kbit digital modem speed? Or can you go faster?
I'm currently using a Samsung V205 from T-Mobile. I bought a data cable, with a Easy GPRS. And surf at 56Kbit. GSM phone.
How much faster is the technology, you are contemplating?

The second internet device would have a dedicated Data chanel, for high band width.
One phone with merit is LG VX6000 - with a 144Kbit digital GPRS
Global Packet Radio System ( this is an Amature radio band that Phone providers are usurping.) and Charging for connectivity - actually a fee for bridging to internet. ) They provide a GW and a DNS
One problem at the moment - no one has the LG VX6000 data cable.

If you have Sprint you can buy a cable at any major store and have unlimited internet via your phone. However if they catch you, they will ask you to pay a certain amount per month.. think it's $30 or so.

Amy... that is incorrect... the cable is less than $20 at best buy, and the service is no more than $40.. I have seen the advertisment card.. (I have a sprint phone, and use it for internet so I should know)
I also saw that t-mobile offers an unlimited internet cellular service something like $29.99 a month. Granted, it's basically a 56k connection, but still, that's pretty damn cheap.
Dont buy the PCMCIA card from them though, you can get the card for like $150, and not the amount they try to sell it to you for.

in san diego you can get ricochet.
it is just about cable modem speed and plugs in through usb (or pcmcia card slot)
they can both be switched from Z-PC to your laptop and I think it costs $50.00 per month but it only is available in San Diego and Denver at the moment. Works great though!

I'm in for 20$ a month. It'll be good if I can check my email on the road, and get the CDDB information when I load CD's onto WMP. Also, I have the subscription($10/month) to Raphsody from Real. I can listen to nearly any song I want for free, and pay 79cents a song if I want to burn it on a CD. You guys should check it out :

I made a nice mix CD of the Top 20 chart, and a special CD with Underworld songs on it. The audio is CD quality.
Having broadband or nearly equal speed helps.
